Hi guys..

Always noticed routers make a difference to attenuation but didnt realise just how much so here is why i ask this question..

My DG834PN connected = 44db attenuation
My DG834GT connected = 44.5db attenuation

And now just purchased a brand new DGN2000 thinking i'd change to wireless N technology so that my sister living further down the street can also connect to my network..

Well anyway my DGN2000 connected = 46db attenuation, sometimes even 46.5db..

This seriously affects my SNR margins and the speed to which i can train to..

Slightly confused, line distance hasnt changed, all routers are Broadcom chip routers..

Any help greatly appreciated..

it will change between routers depending on software & chipset.

for example ar-7 based chipset router I have shows lower atten AND lower SNR than tg585v7. Not an exact science..

dgn2000 good router, very stable. not had any issues with mine. Power brick does not get hot but be warned the unit itself gets very toasty!!

Problem is though, that 1-2db attenuation difference makes a bit of a difference on my connection speed n SNR margin..

Ah well nevermind..

And @willcocks, Yeah i noticed when i set it up today it was very hot on the bottom, nearly burnt my sofa i had it resting on, will just have to stand it up on its brackets in open air.

My attenuation caries by 0.5db sometimes between syncs, attenuation is also increased by around 3db roughly when using ADSL2+ instead of ADSL due to it using extra frequenices on the line.

I don't think there will be an actual difference on the line, atleast there shouldnt be any difference really! just the figures the router is reporting

atleast something is working tonight...... artificially limited much

@Adrian

I can accept the attenuation varying by 0.5db but when it changes from 44db to 46db i lose about half a meg and my SNR margin is slightly lower so makes enough of a difference for me to be concerned.

I was on ADSL2+ with all 3 routers so it isnt to do with different frequencies/types of internet hmmm..

It appears that the DGN2000 uses a Marvel chipset and not a Broadcom chipset which the GT and PN use. With them having the broadcom chipset they would work better with the DSLAMs which KC use.

Hmmm think i might be selling my DGN2000 i just bought, Can't get the wireless to work properly, I mean it works but the signal is very very weak and when i try to use the larger range option it doesnt even connect to the wireless.. I'm fine with any other router and setting up but this thing either isnt working properly, or i'm doing something wrong..

@Adrian

I've tried the latest firmware and also tried the DGteam version and all don't make any difference, I'm sure its something to do with this WPS wireless security feature as i read something on another forum and somebody else was reporting the same kinda issue..

Mine works flawlessly with wireless, it also has good range.

I configured mine manually though.....
