First posted here by Stormy, the news that KC had left thousands of users without broadband internet traveled quickly across the media, giving KC some much needed bad press.

The BBC and Hull Daily Mail are running stories on this the latest in a series of Karoo blunders.

Right now it looks like traffic is disappearing into a black hole in KCs network. It may appear that a user is connected, but traffic is not reaching the destination website.

The BBC has released a video focusing on Karoo and its monopoly. Click here to watch it. As usual we will try to keep you up to date.

*Update 23 Jan 08 20:00* - I notice that the story is now also covered by theregister.co.uk - check out the comments, do you think they mean us lol ?

*Update 24 Jan 08 09:26* - The Karoo status page is now reporting that the issue is fixed. -"24-01-2008 08:13:53 - The service is now stable and all customers should be able to connect successfully. Monitoring will continue throughout the day. Once again, we offer our sincere apologies to all customers affected by this issue."

Gotta love the comments people leave on the HDM website

"can someone tell me when this problem started because,i turned on my computer on uesday morng nd it wouldnt come on it keeps turning itself off and on and still not working.now i have to get a windows xp disc and reboot it,and yes we should be allowed to have a choice. bring on the competition.
julz, hull"

Yeah love, cause Karoo's internet going down will also stop your PC from working.

I'm not in the KC range of terror any more. Yipee. I'm on the borders. Found this place after been on the reg. Just to let you know what I think about the lovely Karoo. F@£K!NG TW@S £*$&£("("*£$("*£()%(&&^£$^".  The service is crap, the cost just plain stupid and the fact they can do what they like is beyond me. If BT suddenly said "right we are the sole provider of service to London" there would be a war. Or if they said it about any where. If other companies are not aloud to have a monopoly why are they?

Thing is Karoo aren't stopping anyone else coming in, I'm sure if KC was 'London Communications' and there were no BT lines in London they would probably have competition as London would be seen as a much better place for people to try to compete, if KC were actually were coming with the attitude of we're just not going to let anyone else into Hull then ofcom would be stepping in,  end of the day providers don't wanna touch Hull, its a crap situation but can't see it changing anytime soon.

Thing is Karoo aren't stopping anyone else coming in, ...

I'd disagree, KCOM has a pattern & practise of disincentive costs & aggro over their last-mile into Karoo's market. AOL were forced to add a Kingston Tax, and prior to AOL, there was rumour of a Leeds or Manchester firm in the North leasing a line, but KC renaged its £ upon getting wind of its ISP intent. This may have been the same date as Giacom (Hull24).

I wouldn't mind, but Karoo merily hook a multiplex onto a landline in BT Exchanges for their south-bank ISP to Lincoln Uni's accomodation blocks.
