Just had an engineer round for the first ever time to see if they could relocate my master socket because when i bought my house the socket was hanging off the wall and was raised near the window.. Unfortunately when he arrived he came to the conclusion the line had been tampered with and was too short to put the master socket in its original place..

I thought he would then mention that a new line would be needed and there would be a cost for this.. To my surprise he got his gear out, climbed the pole in boiling boiling hot weather, and totally replaced my line, and did a sterling job fitting the master socket in a new place which i asked if was possible..

He was more then happy to relocate the socket, did it in fast time and was friendly and talkative..

No cost was incured, totally free of charge and left me smiling and happy..

Great stuff Karoo/KC

To add to this i also have it under good authority that KC are planning to put fibre links to the exchange's in the area.. Copper lines will still then go from exchange to your house as normal, But with the fibre to the exchange's the resistance will be alot less and instead of losing 13.5db/perKM (average loss of db for copper lines).. It will be much lower..

So basically this will lower peoples attenuation because there will be alot less resistance going to the exchange boxes.. Hopefully in turn this will increase peoples attainable speeds.

Take the point you want from this but it IS the next thing to be done by KC.. They are not willing to put fibre to each house, however they are willing to put fibre links direct to the exchange points..

Do you see this being a positive thing? And will it help as predicted?

This fits with what an engineer told me last year... Interesting stuff!

I can be 90% sure that the information i got was the honest truth as to the next move Karoo/KC are due to make..

It would indeed help everybody gain better ADSL2+ speeds..

By the way, Just for those curious and wondering if this new line improved my connection.. It only increased my noise margin SNR by 1db, But i now have a much more stable line.. It will now hold a connection longer, When i review my routerstats from old line with the newly fitted lines routerstats, the main difference i see is that the line for SNR noise is very smooth and doesnt variate too much, The old line however usually spiked on the graph readings quite a bit..

So basically attenuation stayed the same (as expected), noise margin dropped but only very marginally, But new line is more stable and has less interference it would seem.

Considering my ADSL2 speed is almost identical to my ADSL speed (4mb), I would definitely welcome the chance to gain a fast connection.

Am I missing something here? What is the point of having all this speed without the bandwidth?
Surely Karoo would be better investing in bandwidth first so that they could meet properly the demand that they have got.
YES it would be nice to get on the internet quicker but what is the point if the connection is clogged up?

@Robo

I totally agree with you but who know? they might even be contemplating increasing the bandwidth when this change happens, Probably not but i have my fingers crossed.

Well they are going to make it faster anyhow
http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/news/KC-invest-163-4m-quicker-broadband-East-Yorkshire/article-2209683-detail/article.html
Just hope they make it usable by providing more bandwidth.

Just someone elses post i noticed from the link provided by 'Robo'... This further backs up my earlier posts regarding changes to come!

Post:

''As usual most of you guys havent got a clue what your talking about, If BT or anybody else comes into hull they will be using the same lines to your house so you will get the same or worse service, ADSL technology isnt great over distance so if you get a poor service now its due to either dodgy internal wiring in your house or your a long way from the local exchange 2k + BT or anybody else isnt going to sort these issues out your always gonna have poor speeds.. What KC are talking about in this article is Fibre to the Street cabs meaning 100mb speeds.. Jesus you guys this is good news!!

In effect I have this being a relativity new "east riding" subscriber.

OK I get wonderful speed to the exchange and in the middle of the night this means fairly good download speeds.
But the bottleneck at KC knocks this right down to a crawl at peak times, making it almost unusable.
I could have fibre to the home and it would not improve things until KC pay for more bandwidth to the outside world and that means us having to pay lots more??

Hmmm strange..

When the engineer fitted my new line last saturday i was able to connect at 10012kbps and was rock solid even when i dropped the snr to 1db.. Was able to get speedtest results of 9.06mbps

Well this week its been steadily getting slower.. Cannot connect with an SNR less then 2.8db now, if i do it constantly reconnects.. And ontop of that i now can't get a connect speed about 9mb and a speedtest result showing anymore then 7.64kmbps.

Same router, same everything basically.. So whats happened since last weekened? The line was fitted last saturday at 12pm, So i thought despite already discovering these things i'd wait till the same time and then compare the stats.. Still the same issue.. Hmmm very odd.

Further to my previous posts regarding fibre upgrades..

Its official, Karoo 'are' upgrading things soon and as i confirmed earlier, KC are planning to put fibre to the cabinets from the exchanges which will drastically help things.

Its a 10year rollout plan and are starting with Kingswood first.. Don't have a date as to when this begins but looks like Kingswood people will be the first to benifit..

Good news for Kingswood, it's about time really as it is a broadband slow spot. 10 years? most of the country will be FTTP by then.
