So I bought a new phone line about 2 years ago solely for another internet connection in the house.

All I have had since I got the damn thing are wrong numbers, numerous every day.

I called them a while back and got on the phone with a snotty arrogant piece of work who couldnt care less.

I asked for a new phone number and wanted it for free, considering I pay all this and keep getting numerous wrong numbers daily from different companies and people.

They wouldnt even investigate it for me and told me I would need to pay if I wanted a new number.

Also get this, they want ME to investigate why this is happening.

They want me to answer every call I get and interrogate whoever is calling. What number they are calling from, what number they were meant to be calling etc etc.

I hate this "company" with a passion and if there wasnt the monopoly there is here and I actually had a choice, then they wouldnt be in business.

A couple of companies are springing up offering wireless Internet. http://karooforums.net/index.php/topic,1088.0.html

Stick a Voice over IP phone on the end of that, register for an 01482 SIP number (costs from free upwards..) and you have phone too.

It's all a bit new in the city but some people are giving it a go...

Turning the ringer off defeats the point of it as you won't hear the thing ring when a call you actually want ever arrives!
Gigantojim ... try using the word "nuisance" in there. Technically nuisance calls are illegal. If these calls are arriving due to KC giving you a plagued number then I'm sure they might eventually pull their fingers out.
A term I heard today was "The squeakiest cog gets the most oil", so have a lot of noise about it and they might just!

Hi

Clearly an issue due to the previous line number owner.

KC's policy, like Openreaches, is not to renumber a stopped line when its reactivated for the new line owner.

Ask for "choose to refuse" and "Anymous Caller reject" services at no charge for 3 months otherwise you will make a formal complaint with Otello.

Dyls suggestion is a good one - you can also use a POTS phone by using an ATA or router / voice gateway with FXS ports but KC will still charge you illegally £3.50 per month on all their Talk Packages for their unlimited local calls service !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be shortly going to the Mail on this.
