I signed up to Karoo MAX option 2 about a week ago , i was having bad disconnection and SNR problems ( Going into negative numbers) so i complained to ISPA and karoo are now getting an engineer to check the Exchange , The entire phone line , My sockets, My internal wiring ! , Then they cut my service down to 1MBS!! until the 'problem' is solved ! I live 1.4 Miles from the exchange in Beverley, Has anyone else has the same problem ? Any answers and advice would be greatly appriciated , Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem last year..... connection dropping as and when it felt like it..... VERY low speeds when it WAS connected....  culminating in one evening where I had 17 different IP addresses which for me was the very last straw...... at this point I blew the proverbial gasket with the tech help staff who said that the ONLY way they could fix it was to PERMANENTLY nail my BB service at 2meg because so they said "that was all my line could stand".......   bloody strange when I had been stable on a 3meg service for ages before changing the the BB Max service.... I demanded (fairly nastily) that they send an engineer out to inspect my equipment/installation and test as and where he felt like it.

They sent one out under protest and with the threat of legal action for mis-selling (and trade discription errors given that they sell it as an "upto 8meg service" just how praytell can it be that if they cant even supply me with the 3meg service I had before ?)   .....   The Karoo engineer started at my fone socket and worked his way thru the complete installation in my house..... then progressed outside and away down the street and out of sight for 3 days..... eventually he foned me to say he had found the problem IN THE BLOODY EXCHANGE.....   apparently I was connected to the "old" type of DSLAM Card (whatever one of those may be)..... they changed the DSLAM for the new variety and hey presto I had a stable t'internet connection !!!!

pretty good service ? I DONT think so !!!!   the above took about 4 months from start to finish !!

I suggest u start stamping on toes and DONT take any attempts to fob u off.... stand your ground and force them to take action to rectify your problem.

regards

Hello.

I had a similar problem last year..... connection dropping as and when it felt like it.....

Well, my Router has been persistently restarting its DSL connection in a loop. Their karoostatus webpage was misleading, as I phoned on Thu 24-Jan to receive an automated busy response that due to this problem with Routers since Wed (see news), to power-off my Router at the wall. I'd assumed it'd be smooth by now (Sat). Sample Logs:

My DSL-rate is 8128 kbps / 448 kbps via ADSL_Gdmt, and my DSL Line Status reports as:
noise margin upstream: 31 db
output power downstream: 19 db
attenuation upstream: 17 db
noise margin downstream: 1 db
output power upstream: 11 db
attenuation downstream: 28 db

According to my US manufacturer, a typical value of noise margin (both upstream/downstream) is 6 db. If it is below 6 db, the line may be unstable during data transfer. If it is above 6 db, the line is in good condition for data transfer.

Have you tried Mikey's Guide to testing and improving your own Wiring? Found this when musing on a Draytek Vigor:

www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_linefaults.html
( www.seg.co.uk )

If you see it's "faster, more reliable or gives better statistics", then maybe acquire one of adslnation.com's Master Face-plate solutions, and return your home-wiring to voice-only extensions that include the 'Ring' Wire without dangling ADSL microfilters:

Found out that there was a problem with the router, This was only 1 part of the problem though , KCOM havent maintained our master socket (Its ancient) or Phone line connections , They are all "Pre-Broadband" as quoted by Karoo's technical help desk , They are getting engineers to check and repace some of our wiring and check the port at the exchange. Current Line stats on a Belkin router .

Downstream         Upstream

Data rate (Kbps)
5760                       448

Noise margin (dB)
5.6                         27.0

Output power (dBm)
19.6                        11.9

Attenuation (dB)
42.0                        26.5

Anyone else in the beverley got similar results or an "Pre-Broadband" Socket and Line connections?
