I've noticed more users reporting that they have signed up with Air Net recently rather than with NextGenUs. Being a curious type I find myself wondering what makes folk choose one above the other? Price, credibility, speed, latency?

My guess is Airnet are signing people up quicker, responding to presales enquiries promptly.

For me, I will be signing with AirNet due to the fact they actually cover my area, whereas NextGen do not.

They are also much better at responding to my emails and queries, and have a phone number which can be rang, which makes me think that, should a error occur during my time under contract with them, that I will be able to speak to somebody over phone, rather having to use someones internet service (should mine be down) to email them.

Also thier website is so much better, the NextGen website is awful!

One thing that really interests me with NextGen, is the speed, however they did not inform me if they plan to move to my area, thus giving me no reason to wait.

A few reasons I went with Airnet over Nextgen was,

I got no response to over six emails I sent nextgen.
Airnet answered all of my emails within the hour.
They had my install done with in four days of my original email.
The service I received from Ricky and Chris(fitter) was outstanding.
The install costs were cheaper.
And I feel I can trust them.

Perfectly fine reasons you give there.

I will be honest and will say that upto today i have had no other company in mind other then NextGenUs, based on me already having person to person talks with them..

But admittedly i did send a very important email last night to Simon, The reason being, my karoo contract is due for renewel very very soon so i need to make the choice.. I was informed by NextGenUs that within 4 weeks (1 months) i should then be able to receive their service given that when they first attempted they couldnt get me connected..

Now as i say i have always stayed loyal to the thought of being another NextGenUs member and i had even promised Simon that i would sign up as soon as the 4 weeks waiting period is up..

I might now have to consider Airnet simply because i can't wait for Simon to get back to me and let me know whats happening, I really need to choose which service to have and fast!

Oh and buster_uk its nice to see your speeds are slowly improving. good stuff.

El

Your Karoo contract doen't have to be renewed, once you have completed the 12 months.
As far as I know you can cancel whenever you want to. - anyone confirm this?

Yeah I'm sure it just goes to a rolling month to month contract after the initial 12 months

As far as i'm aware unless you state otherwise your contract is automatically renewed..

The problem i have is that i don't want to be put into another 12 month contract with them..

You definitely don't go onto another 12 month contract, and it is exactly the same as a contract mobile phone or Sky - after the first 12 months you're just a regular old customer who can cancel when you damn well want!

I'm in Northern Ireland until Monday, then I need to get in touch with Simon anyway so I'll mention that you're looking for him.

Back on topic :-P

When Airnet first posted that they'd be deploying in the HU5/Faifax avenue area I contacted them immediately, and when NextGenUs posted about their launch I contacted them immediately. NextGenUs returned my email in 2 working days, it was 3 weeks before I heard from Airnet - Presumably because they hadn't actually launched in the Fairfax area and didn't want to contact potential customers in that area until they actually got things up and running (fair enough). I went with NextGenUs based upon my interaction with Simon and his team, the prospects of blistering fast speeds and generally because Karoo do not provide my area with a good enough (in my view) service compared to other parts of the city and because I didn't want to move onto the newer packages. As KCs plans to improve the lines in 'not spot' areas of the city are in their infancy and depend on a number of factors, the timeframe for a full solution being within 10 years, I decided to take the opportunity to join NextGenUs. I haven't looked back, I had teething issues initially which are well documented/covered in the NextGenUs area of this forum however this was resolved quickly and efficiently and left me with a far better service than I had expected from NextGenUs, I had expected around 20mbps and got 40mbps; can't complain!

With regards to the websites of both Airnet and NextGenUs - they both aren't professional sites, with that said they're both companies in their infancy who at the moment appear to be focusing on the level of service they provide to those that have been signed up to the service; who can blame them for not wanting to get caught up in smaller details such as their sites.

At present both are relying heavily on word of mouth, it's great to see many Airnet customers joined up and posting feedback and I very much hope to see the same as NextGenUs begin signing up more people.

I must admit i emailed NextGenUs and within a day i had a response and immediately had an installation date.. As i said i'm hoping Simon will get in touch as soon as possible so that i can negotiate which service to go with.. I have been informed it 'May' be possible to connect me as of 22nd august (1 month since they tried installing equipment)... So hopefully i'll hear back from NextGenUs very soon.. But yes please richard if you don't mind having a word when you get in touch it'd be appreciated..

Glad your service has been great so far.. And i agree it is nice to see a few people cropping up with new 'None Karoo' internet connections... I didnt think the days would come when people in Hull finally have a choice..

So far the Karoo user forum boasts 3 airnet and 2 nextgenUs customers.. (these are people who have posted to confirm they have the services).. Hopefully soon there will be many more signed up.

I e-mailed NextGenus several times directly and via this forum and never got any answer - not even a brief e-mail to say we will be back in touch!  I'm with Airnet.  Had a few blips in the beginning as given 'duff' information by Sales, but once I started dealing with Ricky the service has been excellent.    Installation was faultless - both Ricky and Chris were great.

I appreciate that both companies are receiving many enquiries as people are trying to get away from Karoo, but customers will go with the one that does get back to you!

From a speed perspective, getting constant 11 to 12 down and 8 to 10 up.  Very stable connection  Excellent for downloading streaming video, tv series from iTunes, etc.  Never was able to use BBC iPlayer with karoo as it kept buffering.  Got VOIP up and running with Connexin account as an interim measure as will be getting VOIP from Airnet when its up and running.  (Ricky was in touch today and was testing the Airnet VOIP through remote connection to my kit,  this should be sorted out soon).

Coverage and install costs got me to choose Airnet. 10mb is more than enough for me at the mo.

I was going to sit back and let hullnet and co be the guinea pigs a little longer Wink but then decided I should also back one of these new companies so I contacted AirNet this morning to ask about their coverage in my area HU9. When I came home for lunch I checked my email and had a reply confirming they do and I should get around their nominal 10Mbps up and down so I've requested an application.

I decided to try Airnet because of their fair usage policy...or lack of it  Cheesy  Like Hullnet said, 10Mbps is plenty fast enough for me (I'll be happy if I get around the 8Mbps I currently get from karoo but without the peak time throttling). NexGen looks tempting when I see some of the speeds guys are getting but I don't like the sound of the 4gig allowance in any 24 hours.

At the moment I pay KC/Karoo just over £500 for BB and a phone line I don't want. I'm gonna save £200 a year moving over to Airnet and have the added pleasure of knowing it was my choice Smiley
