Hi,

My Dad has just upgraded (well changed) from Max to Mid and is now connecting at only 6.9Mbps when he used to connect at the full 8Mbps line speed.

He has got the standard Speedtouch ST-510. Is there a way for him to get anything better from the line?

I must admit I am suprised its slower. Post code is HU8.

Not quite understanding your question there stormy... Huh? Have you upgraded from Mid ot Max... Roll Eyes?

According to KC's site there is no Max now...They advertise "Six Super Fast" packages.... Grin It may be me just been fick though...Now I've looked at the KC site I must go and wash my eyes out with bleach... Smiley

No my Dad was on Karoo Max Option 1 (Upto 8Mbps) which is no longer available and not advertised and he is now on Karoo Mid (ADSL2+ upto 24Mpbs) and the connection speed is slower on the ADSL2+ than it was on Karoo Max.

Is there a training period like with the old Max?

But judging how his line has gone down in speed, I think I will leave mine on Karoo Max at home!

Only connecting on ADSL1 at the moment, upgrade may not have gone through yet, maybe give them a ring.

Nice line should be able to easily do 14mbps+

Might be worth trying a different router as that line should manage 16Mbit+ quite easily.

This is an interesting case because I know many people who have upgraded to Kingston Communication's newer service and receive slower speeds, in my opinion this is not surprising because KC's equipment can just only barely handle ADSL 1+ technology and to increase the speeds of their services even further is bound to cause some problems. It doesn't stop their either because quite some time ago KCOM stupidly chose to opt with 0.3mm cabling whilst the rest of the U.K agreed on 0.5, this has resulted in a poor quality of service for the people in Hull today who genuinely live quite a distance away from the nearest exchange. I have often seen many people on this forum report of their connection's suddenly dropping and become slow for no apparent reason, if KC had lets say...had less than half of the customer they have now for example the service would near enough operate fine but with the Internet becoming more accessible nearly everyone in Hull subscribing. Now as a result we have thousand of users accessing the Internet at a higher frequency than normal on a cabling system that just barely supports ADSL 1+. As the old saying goes don't build a road with two lanes apposed to the required three and expect traffic to move along smoothly.

I hope these two issues are resolves fast BTW because its only going to get worse if ignored.

My Dad is happy with 10Mbps but when I next pop down I will get him to call KC up and see if they can adjust the line to get some more speed for him.

Looks like its just set at the default settings I suppose when they enabled ADSL2+

It begs the question, why do they not configure each install to get the best from the line when they enable it, surely it can't be that hard?

As for changing the router, why is there need when miken says it should be fine? My Dad as I say is happy so he wont be spending more money on a router. I just thought I could squeeze some extra from the line for him.

Cheers,

Mike

Simple answer?

Because if they do that they will recieve alot more complaints that people are getting random disconnections.. You see the closer the person is to their optimum speeds, the more chance that little variances can affect your internet activity.. And as a result you will be more prone to losing your line sync and stability.
