As Airnet state that 'speedtest' sites are incompatible with their service I have setup a VPS with a 100mb test file for you to try downloading. As it's just been setup URL may not work instantly as rDNS and A records all need to propagate but it is working from my end:

http://testdownload.hwshosting.net/100mb.bin
or temporarily
http://94.76.237.32/100mb.bin

All I ask is that it's not abused, ie don't be downloading it again and again and again. The VPS is limited to 100GB bandwidth and will reset on the 1st of the month, I will consider increasing this if it though if that gets used up.

Download instructions:
Right click, save target as
or
Use your favourite download manager, copy the URL and set it off downloading

The file can simply be deleted afterwards, obviously this will only down your download speed - not upload.

EDIT - For anyone interested: host server is in BlueSquare House, Maidenhead with a 100mbit port. Currently the host is unused, however will be used in the future.

Not sure I've understood it the (1.0 MB/sec) is that saying I'm only getting 1 Mbps download? its 12:50 pm so I expect slowdown but not that much  Sad

Edit: I've just done a speedtest.net test and getting just over 9Mbps. I'm confused...

Nope, it's a bit wierd. I'm not sure  how the terminology works.

My usenet connection for example will start at 900kb/s, then gets faster til it says 1mps (approx 1024kb/ps). On speedtest this would show as around 10mb, which I think is what your download test says.

1.0mb/sec means you're pulling around 9-10mbps.

As an example, imy speedtest shows 49mbps that means I would be downloading around 5 mega bytes per second (5mb/sec)

MBPS is mega BITS per second.
MB/s is mega bytes per second.

Sorry for confusing things, just with Airnet terms and conditions excluding speedtests I thought it might help to show actual download speeds to them if you're having trouble.

Ah I understand....I'm really dumb on this stuff....there are so many variants of the same answer kbps Kbps mbps Mbps it gets so confusing.

I'm pleased with that then.  Smiley

Thanks for taking the time to set this up for us, Richard. And for explaining more in depth for thickos like me  Wink

I'll let you in on a little secret, I had to google it to double check - it is confusing.

big B = Bytes little b = bits

It's not always that easy though because people don't always follow that rule  Grin

As I thought - My connection is gives the same result as the speed test sites do.

Why they say its incompatible is beyond me, its essentially downloading a file from a sever, is Air Net not compatible with downloading?

4-5MB.

I would suppose they're going on the theory that the traffic available on speedtest sites can be contested. At the moment the traffic on my server is completely available.

I never actually complete the full download of the file lol, but it gives a great indication.
You planning on keeping this available?
