4oD
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:15:54 pm »

Is anybody trying and struggling to watch 4oD?

The adverts/4oD intro buffer about every 1 second.
The actual content buffers about every 9 or 10 seconds.

The particular stream I am trying to watch is: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-inbetweeners/4od#3121646

I am on Karoo Mid 2.

Speedtest.net's are giving me about 2-3mbps.  This is rubbish.

Can only test 4oD for you using Airnet. All working no problems no sign of buffering. It's Karoo as usual giving you a below par service. Sad

Karoo Pro 4OD adverts play OK, but the actual program content buffers and pauses every 10 seconds or so. My line is syncing at 10mbps down so I'm guessing that there is just too much contention for bandwidth at the mo.

Yeah that's something they should have addressed a long time ago. You pay good money to be able to watch legal content and they're not making enough bandwidth available. Hopefully the new competition will force to offer more.

Given, as far as I know, NextGenUs are getting their gbit feed from KC/Karoo... The bandwidth is there and unused by KC.

Yeah I heard NextGen are using KC/Karoo. So if the bandwidth is there and customers are paying for it, why are they not making it available? Do KC/Karoo only pay for what's used? If so, what are they doing with all the money they make from their customers?

I think kc and Karoo only make available the bare minimum bandwidth, regardless of what they have available.

I have always had contention or shaping or throttling issues with various media players .throughout the year often at peak times just giving up .
Its not the connnection speed thats the problem its the piss poor traffic that is allowed through due to not enough bandwidth available.

Pro 1 has just been expensive sh*te to me ,,,,,and a cash cow to karoo

Which makes a mockery of them trying to get people off ADSL 8Mpbs when the ADSL2+ services are just a bad. Its a very poor show. Sad

Thank you to those that tested.

It took about 35 mins to watch the 24 mins of content  Cheesy

And to think, all that ate into my 30GB allowance, so in theory I could end up paying for that too in my £2/GB rip off for over usage!

I reported to helpdesk, but I imagined it, because nobody else reported it, so it didn't happen  Cheesy

What's annoying is that it's so unpredictable, I should be able to decide I want to watch something and it just work!

The content is working spot on now, not a single problem.  However, the adverts / 4oD intro are bad.
