I bought a new computer last weekend. Occasionally, Firefox will load but more often I get the following message:

-----
The requested URL could not be retrieved

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.google.com/firefox?
the following error was encountered:

    * Access Denied.

      Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is incorrect.

Your cache administrator is help@kcom.com.

Mark at help@kcom.com suggested I check the proxy settings. These seem all right – indeed, access is not always denied. The previous computer (now with partner) was and remains virtually trouble free as regards browser access.

Any ideas out there?

Hmmm, looks like an issue with the Krapoo proxy servers  Undecided

Try changing your browers home page to http://www.google.co.uk

Personally I wouldn't use their proxy severs at all, why show them what web pages you are visiting.....

You could always disable the Karoo proxy.

Tools -> Options -> Network -> Settings -> Then select direct connection to internet.

Cheers

Thanks for your attention. Proxy removed (using Vista so route different) but still the problem. Cannot understand why sometimes Firefox works fine. On rare occasions, even attempting IE results in an access denied notice. Vista or Karoo?

There are issues with the TCP/IP stack in Vista, service pack 1 is meant to address some of these issues. Maybe your problem is OS related, having said that any chance to bad mouth Krapoo is a good one  Grin Grin

What error message are you getting after removing the proxy server settings?

Problem solved. When setting up the system in general, there was a crash (ahem!) and a return to an earlier point. The proxies, initially removed, were unknowingly reinstated. The boxes once again unticked, everything is sweetness and light. Thanks to everyone on this thread.
