Just had a read of the Mediasat site and it makes sense now.
They've commissioned
Geo Networks to deliver the fibre Network. I believe Geo deliver this type of thing in various ways, but looking at Mediasat's layout map it seems most likely that they'll be putting fibre through the sewer.
Simples.

As far as anyone has been able to figure out, Mediasat3 put it's head above the parapet a few months ago. Have a look at this thread
