Thought this deserved some praise.

Basicly in the past for some reason my connection couldn't handle speeds above ~2.5Mbps, probably due to my low SNR and high attenuation. Well I wrote Karoo an e-mail regarding the very poor speeds I were recieving during peak times and made sure they knew I thought it was due to the heavy traffic shaping.

There was no comment about the traffic shaping but they did increase my connected speed past that 2.5Mbps threshold to 6Mbps. I haven't been online much as of yet but so far no disconnects, maybe they have upgraded the lines in this area since I last had a connection speed this high?

I will post some speed tests with this new speed during peak time to see if any actual improvements are made. I also have the option to ring thier helpdesk if any problems should arise.

I am using the Netgear DG834G v5 modem/router and it shows my current line stats as:

ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstream
Connection Speed5952 kbps448 kbps
Line Attenuation54.0 db31.5 db
Noise Margin3.5 db20 db

EDIT: Peak time results can be found here

Good luck with that Gareth... when I was with Karoo I had mine increased to 8Mbps but it made mine more unstable, I ended up with it back to 2/4 Mbps... Sad neither setting made a massive difference and I still had 2 to 3 disconnections a day.. Sad
Hope it all goes well for you anyway, keep us updated mate... Smiley

One thing I have noticed is the pings seem to have increased, possibly due to slight instability. Although they are still below 30ms.

Did a quick iPlayer test and I can now stream HD quality, if traffic shaping allows. The bandwidth is there at least.

It wont help with the shaping though I don't suppose Gareth. Nice that they have helped you up the connection speed.

I would still expect a piss poor service from a throughput point of view on any of the Max 8Mbps services. I thankfully have no line issues like some of you, solid as a rock when it comes to the ADSL link, its just the appauling shaping and throttling of the connection which is the pain in the backside.

Unfortunatly this praise topic is cut short by traffic shaping hitting again.

New speed tests taken during peak time can be found here
