Has anyone seen those access point things on the top of some lamposts. Can any one shed any light on them? They are grey boxes with a little black anttena on them with the cable running up through the center of the lampost.

As far as I am aware they are simple Peer-to-Peer relay devices, used to extend a network from council buildings and schools without actually having to lay any cabels. Just look at it like a very long Cross-Over lead between two switches but in the air instead of trailing dangerously on the floor.

It is the ancestor of the technology AirNet is using to provide you with an internet connection.

well it would be fair to say why these are near schools and the council housing office. thanks for clearing things up. also hull cc use quickline internet so i can bet quickline put them there, any ideas?
