OK, so I think it's pretty much a no-brainer to say that most people who use Karoo are somewhat disappointed with the speed that they get (especially at peak times). Fortunately for us, the good people at www.speedtest.net provide a test which allows you to post the results straight to a forum.

If you want to share your speed please tell us which package you are on, and what your ADSL line speed is (you can usually find this on your router admin page). After the test runs, you can copy and paste a line of BB Code which you can then include in your post to show an image like the one below.

Here's mine at ten to eight on a Monday evening  Angry

Karoo Package: Karoo Max Option 3
ADSL Connection Speed: 6912kbps

Hi martin, Wow - that's really interesting!

I'm on Option 3, which is somewhat expensive! I did the test literally 1 minute before you, and yet I'm getting one third of the speed you're getting!!!!

Seems this bandwidth limiting isn't effecting everyone equally...

My ADSL connection is solid, ds rate is 6912 Kbps, I'm almost on top of the exchange and I've transfered only 11 GB of the 40 I'm allowed to use this month.

So it looks like Karoo are limiting despite what you pay, and whether or not you're using the service too much. Hmmm I think we're getting somewhere!

Updated:-

I always get 8000kbps connected to the exchange which is in Leconfield and about half a mile away from me. I guess the copper is fairly new as it was only laid a few years ago. I think I'm around 14gb download this month.  I certainly see NNTP dropping to almost zero during the evenings.

I'm connected at the moment at 2752 / 448 so it's not far off I suppose.

Hi,

Connection is 8128/448 on the Brough exchange (Option 2), just remotly connecting home to do this speedtest from work which is why upload is a bit down compared to what it should be.

This is the fastest its been for a while, although it is 9:17am. I will do another test peak time and I expect it will be crawling then. Wink

Mike

PS: Nice forums. Always nice to have somewhere else to talk with Karoo users.

but you can use http://www.nomachine.com/download.php for linux..
I believe Lefty (member of this forum) is pretty hot on Linux and installing NXclient?

LOL at link, I will try my connection again on peak and I am sure mine will be down to 400-500kbps, it usually is!

Edit: Just noitced BT is going at 750Kb/s at the moment, have Karoo turned off the trafic shaper until we all stop complaining? I'll be interested to see what performance is like after 6pm
