After having my old trusty etec wireless router for some time i decided to upgrade and have bought Belkins N Wireless Router F5D8236 Cable,   after trying for four hours checking Belkins support i still cant connect using it. it seems Belkin did have some Karoo issues with a couple of its other models but this one isnt mentioned thus no fix!!     why did i choose this one!!!!

Connecting the Belkin N Wireless Router to your cable or DSL modem lets you share your broadband Internet account with all your networked computers. The N wireless router uses draft 802.11n technology and Intelligent MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) spatial multiplexing techniques which greatly increases speed, coverage, and the reliability of the wireless network. N wireless router offers a quick and efficient way for people to distribute music, photos, and files among the networked computers in their home.   I WISH! Huh? Huh?

Its a cable router not designed to be used for adsl.

You should be able to get it to work, but it involves running two seperate devices, the router and a seperate modem connected together.

I've never tried it myself, seems alot of messing around and its much easier to purchase a device which is a modem router on its own.

I am intrigued. How did you get the Belkin plugged into your line with the adsl cable?  Grin

Might be best I clarify a couple of things first....might be a bit of confusion.

The Belkin you have is a cable router which means you would need to plug it into another ethernet modem router, such as your Etec.

Are you plugging your Belkin into your Etec with an ethernet cable? If you are, this has nothing to do with Karoo or any firmware modem issues full stop. Your Etec is your adsl connecting device and would be holding your VPI/VCI etc.

With you saying you couldn't find VPI/VCI in your Belkin, it may me think you are treating the Belkin like an adsl modem router and plugging that into your line.

Pretty much yes. Not to hot on Belkins though so not able to advise much further.

If you have managed to plug the Belkin into the filter/telephone line then you probably have the adsl cable (RJ11) plugged into the network port (RJ45) on your Belkin which wil never work. Chances are that your phone will stop working when you do this as well?

I don't think it'd stop the phone working but it might blow a few components in the router. Plugging it into the etec seems kind of pointless to be honest but that's pretty muh what you are supposed to do with this kind of router.

I have always liked Netgear and found them easy to configure.

I'd reccomend anything from D-Link, only problem is they tend to cost a bit more than other brands though in my experience it is worth the additional cost. If you want Wireless N something like the DSL-2740R should work well and can probably be found on eBay, though it will likely cost you in the region of £50, if that's too much the DSL-2680 should go for around half that price and will likely do what you want.
