Hmmm I was informed of this information a long long time ago, Will not get too excited just yet.. However, It fits in with one of my old posts regarding KC doing FTTC.. So if this is linked, And KC have an agreement with mediasat3 to use the fibre technology to link into their network and thus, Use FTTC technology, Which i believe they will, Then this could be good news.. I would actually suggest that the laying on this fibre will be to accommodate linking the fibre to KC's exchange/cabinet links.. But thats just theory, Only one of the fibre layouts has been disclosed so i can't conclude this theory of mine..

If, However this is the case, Then it will be much the similar sequence to BT infinity.. 50mbps will not be seen, However, 40mb is likely, With throughputs depending on location being upto 37mbps down, and 8mb up.

Regards

Im sure i was told they would be feed into the kc exchange and something to do with LLU and that way we get a choice of isp, Yes 50mbs is a bit extream 40 again is a bit more like it but i was informed i would proberly get around 35mbs down and 6up, thats because of the distance i am from my exchange

Yea i know people who work in telephone business aswell so that helps, here ill spread a little bit of what i know, A friend of mine went to school with the owner of orbital he also used to work for sky doing LLU from bt to sky, He said the setup will be the same, Something along the lines of "fiber into the exchange then llu to say virgin and then that comes down the kc line"

Quote
MediaSat3 Limited
Hi , we are just working out how we will be doing East Hull, you should be able to get off the KC network city wide by June via LLU, we ourselves will not deal with residential, this will be done via our network partners such as Sky etc...so if you are a business, it may take some time, if you are a residential it will be quicker...

The connections speed will depend on the ISP you choose. If you choose, say for instance, Virgin, they may well offer a speed of 50Mbps. Michaels Private network will have a ping of sub 5ms. So it will be up to your choice of ISP that provides your home.

Mediasat will be connecting business users over their PN, another company, Whom I'm not allowed to mention, will rent lines from medisat3 and provide a route in for other ISP's, the private network will have the exact same set up as a residential one, and therefore will have the same possible speeds.

In theory, Anyone on the kc network will have these same options as everywhere else in the UK.....Perhaps not a vast list of suppliers, but there will be at least three major players providing in Hull

Here's some prices.. http://www.mediasat3.com/web02/costs.php

I guess the cost is just for connection to the Mediasat Fibre network without Internet transit. I'd have thought they meant Megabits rather than Megabytes though!?

It's hard to say to be honest mate. I'm no expert in this TBH but I wonder if they options open to them might go somewhat along these lines.

1. Superfast. Mediasat run fibre right to your house (perhaps not practical unless their existing fibre literally runs past you).
2. Fast. Mediasat run fibre up to a street cabinet, rent space inside it from KC for their kit and then rent the copper from the cab to your house off KC too to actually deliver the service to you.
3. Slowest. Mediasat rent some space in an exchange for their kit, run fibre to the exchange for the backhaul and then deliver the service in pretty much the same way as KC do now.

As for price, the connections to their network seem extraordinarily reasonable and the promotional blurb seems to suggest that they're well placed for transit so hopefully if/when these services come online they should be competitively priced.

how fast do you recon is

super fast
fast
slowest

I recon the
super fast is 50mb
fast is 30mb
slowest 10mb

Any of the 3 i would be happy with i would even consider getting the slowest as 10mb would be great for me that cause the pings would be good

I'd be willing to eat my hat (feel free to use this post against me) and say that it will not under any circumstances end up as messy and low as your connection and those suffering low speeds with Airnet are at present.

Words of wisdom mate, I agree completely. If it was me I'd be exactly the same.
