As some of you are probably already aware, Walkington recently had fibre upgrades and most users in walkington are now being connected to the new service. To get walkington up and running cost KC over £500,000.
Anywho aside from that, Here is the kind of average stats people of walkington are now seeing as a result..
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 19992 Kbps 1327 Kbps Line Attenuation 16.7 dB 9.9 dB Noise Margin 6.7 dB 4.3 dB
Notice as well that karoo seem to be now offering walkington customer higher upload rates? 1.3mb? Nice....
Also note that walkington has now gone from an average user speed of 2mbps to 17-20mbps.. So they've totally leap frogged people in urban populations..
This is something that annoys me a little, I'm all for seeing the rural areas brought up to speed, But for all the money thats getting spent by our company which us urban customers also pay for, Should we not also be seeing some money put into speeding up us urban customers as well..
I can see the next year being one which will produce several rural communities around the hull and east riding area, All having massive amounts of money put into upgrading their services..
Does anyone understand what i'm saying and points of views welcome..
As i said i'm happy for the rural communities to be brought upto speed, So long as there is also some movements of interest in the urban communities in the main city of Hull.. And for these rural place to go from 2mb to 20mb and to leave us guys totally in the dark in comparison seems a little unfair..
I think i may actually be tempted to move to somewhere like ottringham , No doubt thats on the hit list for next year too.

Thats pretty good, quite low SNR there speeds might need decreasing abit. I am assuming that is FttExchange? Fibre is capable of synchronous up/down speeds more as the amount of copper is taken out.
Fingers crossed we get it soon

Here you go @GarethG http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=100668908521&topic=16142Perhaps your right, perhaps only if you have ftte on a karoo network you are able to attain higher upload rates.. I'd actually say the snr levels are fine on that connection. I'd be tempted to change it to 3db profile but i'm one for experimenting.

I always thought that between exchanges it was fibre connections many years ago?
It's 'Fibre to the kerb' I thought that would give alot better line stats than what they are recieving, makes me think FttH is the only way forward. Or at least FttC now with possible upgrading to FttH in the future. I say that because of the Government wanting to have the best network in Europe, for me those speeds would be fine.

Where did this come from about it getting done just for a councilor and his son wanting to play xbox live. I saw it all over the facebook page. Also I've heard on the grapevine that parts of holderness rd and Kingswood are to benefit from the same technology.

Yes months ago i posted that Kingswood are to be the first of the FTTC revolution as a urban town. Indeed you did el...I remember you saying that... It pays to have an uncle working high up at Karoo. This is an email i sent to karoo regarding the higher upload rate: Update: I've noticed some users on karoo are now seeing higher upload speeds 1.3mb to be exact, Yet i remain on 1mb (1023kbps)..
Just wondered why this is the case, Should we not all be given the same opportunity for a higher upload rate.. This user lives in walkington so no doubt i'll be given an answer along the lines of
'Hello, this is because there is new updated equipment which can give better upload capabilities'. This is the response i had explaining thingsMichael,
Thank you for your email to the Internet Helpdesk.
While the new equipment shows a higher synch speed, the packages are still limited to a 1Mbps upload speed.
Should you require any further technical assistance, please don't hesitate to get back in touch.
Best regards, Mark Consumer Technical Support

I recon kingswood will get it first cause they isnt much in the way from the exchange to kingswood. A few fields and then your at kingswood a minimum disruption, As say Exchange to sutton park Alot of houses and roads in the way

Its also because Kingswood suffer from generally low speeds, So of the urban parts of the city Kingswood are first priority (after the rural have been brought upto speed)

Karoo will not do much in the way of FTTC/H in Hull as they have no money and they can not borrow money as they have a large amount of debt. They are struggling to raise capital, the costs of upgrading the whole of Hull vs the returns (i.e. nothing but more costs in bandwidth) means we will have a very very slow rollout. They do the outlying villages as it makes them look good and pulls in paying customers.
They are actively trying to pressure certain big 'public organisations' into releasing money to fund the fibre upgrade.
The people of Hull will be left behind in the race for fast broadband if left up to Karoo.
