We need to move our master socket - can we do this ourselves, or do we have to pay KC to come and do it?

Thanks.

Not that much really:

  • Krone tool
  • Snips
  • Electrical knife (Or any sharp blade like a stanley knife)
  • Screwdriver (usualy flat)
  • Extra phone line cable (Can be any cable but has to be at least 1.5mm thick)
  • Couple of terminal blocks (Used to join the internet cables at your current main socket with the extra phone line cable)
  • I would also get a new wall mounted micro-filter

Putting the cable around the outside of your house can keep the cable cooler and as a result also keep its resistance lower, but during summer with direct sunlight it can make it hotter than running it inside your house. Bit of a double bladed sword but I would personally prefare inside. You can if you wish run it inside the wall to keep it out of sight, but depending on what your walls are (brick, plasterboard etc) it may be a messy afair and not to mention more expensive.

Why do you need to move it

It's currently attached to a window frame which is coming out at the end of next week, to have new windows fitted.

Thanks for the instructions.

I would recommned that you get KC to do this.

KC have a legal obligation to manage the service to the NTE5. However, you COULD still move the NTE5 yourself as its not illegal to do this yourself.

You cant be sued generally for moving it BUT if KC are aware of this and you cause a spike on the network when moving the NTE5 socket or having non BABT approved equipment installed on the line that causes damage to the line cards in the exchange you would be sued.

Blimey. Can't quite see how we'd cause a spike!

I've moved mine a least 5 or 6 times over the last 20 years, upstairs, downstairs, front of the house back of the house...never being sued yet... Cool

We got a friend who's a professional cabler to do it; he moved from the downstairs back of the house to the upstairs front - took him about two hours, as there was lots of furniture to move.

Traded it for a simple web site, so we're all happy!
