The question i ask is
"Due to the lack of alternatives for business's, is the City of Hull held back by KC from joining the digitial revolution?"

If i where a large IT company with many servers (for my data center)... were would i go, hmmmm - Hull with its quality infrastructure and HUGE range of services from all those 1 companies... or some other city where the prices will be lower due to competition?

hmmmm - you have to ask yourself how many IT related companies are based in Hull?

There is a bigger picture here to look at, but with no high paying companies we fail to attract the HUGE quantities of quality students leaving yearly from one of the top Uni's in the country we are left as a poor back water which leads to a knock on effect of lack of investment from outside...
Can all this be the fault of KC?  Nah (?) but as we go further down the route of digitisation then more and more blame will be heaped upon them...

Why does Starbucks cafe not have wifi?  because KC say its against their policy?  Every other Starbucks throughout the country has wifi?  We have to rely on the Libraries (good on ya Hull City Council Libraries!) for our free wifi...!!

How backwards do we have to become before people realise?

 Sad

With its inferred high earners from said IT industries Hull would gain masivel

Hello all

Having just moved here some 6 months ago, from London the Mecca of all things wonderful and crap.

Also being a communications manager based in the countries financial heart. I have one thing to say what the F*&X) is Kingston doing.

NO SDSL
NO MPLS
NO CPS
NO IDA (LCR) apart from C&W because of the mercury deal eons ago.

nothing, narda zilch, zip, zero,  is good here it is like the dark ages and the backhaul services are lower than my 24 meg line I had at home in south London (oh I paid £24.99pm) and got about 1,890 kbps

Its time things started happening of which I would love to here of similar minded users.

It begs the question, if you work in communications, why the hell did you come to Hull? Smiley

Do you work for the cash cow known as KCOM PLC? SmileySmileySmiley

Stormy

As any good communications PROFFESIONAL I work for a national company I live here because it is my home and were I would want my children to grow up. (beverley born)

I had high regards once for Kingston it was a market leader run for the people (ok by the council but it was ok)

Now it’s just a bad attempt at a half cut piss ant with very little leg control.

Oh and i use Mobile HSDPA when Karoo are being Kapoo

Yes KCOM's monopoly is bad for Hull. No question about it. Having lived outside the UN buffer zone we have here I can tell you that alternative Providers offer far superior service for less money.

In my View

KCon are killing this area Hull City Build, Yorksire Forward and other regeneration organisations all want to promote hull and surrounding as a good place to do business.
So ok look at national company X

National company X has 100 stores around the UK selling dehydrated Poo (massive market you know) they have a requirement for a call centre and have decided to look at Hull.

Pros
Cheap staff
Cheap office locations
Young workforce.

Cons
Expensive installation costs and upfront fees.
Expensive call charges.
No interconnection onto the corporate MPLS service (expensive leased line to a MPLS interchange then the cost of equipment and the tail into the MPLS).
No CPS (carrier pre selection so cannot use national phone tariffs)
No LCR (old method of CPS again but you can go to C&W but not cheap so don’t bother)
Lack of skill in workforce.
No SDSL for home workers and IT staff to work remotely
Shit ADSL service (think enough said on that).

This all mounts up to a massive reason not to place National companies X business in Hull as they are experts in shit and the don’t need any more!!!!!!
