Hi all

Having looked at my usage with karoo I decided it would be a good idea to change from mid2 to mid3 as i tend to use approx 38gb a month, therefore having to pay £16 excess usage.

I thought this would a simple affair of contacting karoo and asking to change, but then they tell me this would tie me into a new 12 month min term. Is this correct and are they allowed to do it, some phone monkey from their so called "loyalty team" told me this was they same with all companys and used the example of mobile telcos saying that when u change tarrifs they tie you in for 12 months, i disagree i have changed packages with 3, orange and sky and this has never been the case (even more so when you are going to a higher package and therefore paying more!!!)

Having been a long suffering karoo user of over 8 years having to put up with poor sevice, and ove priced tarrifs i am really loathed to sign into another commitment with these pi$$ poor cowboys.

Any advise or am i stuff between a rock and kcom

No you should not be tied in unless you take free hardware as part of the upgrade - see item 6.4 from karoo broadband terms and conditions

http://www.k-c.co.uk/docs/legal-docs/karoo-terms.pdf

6,4 . If You upgrade or downgrade Your Service, Your new Service will not normally be subject to a
further Minimum Period. However, if You take up an offer of free hardware as part of an upgrade,
Your new Service may be subject to a further Minimum Period. Any changes to the Minimum Period
for Your service will be clearly explained to You at the time You request the change in service.

Hi

I believe that it is now KC policy to try and tie people into longer term contracts at every opportinity even though users are either upgrading or downgrading when the users initial 12 or 18 month contract term has expired due to possible competition.

Contracts that have exceeded the minimum term are subsequently considered 30 day "roll over" contracts and can be cancelled providing 1 months notice. (The same for any standard service contract).

If users are still in or outside the initial contract term, at worst, KC, can make a reasonable charge for you to transfer to another tariff.

Once the minimum term as expired, KC may still levy an upgrade or downgrade charge but to say you have to sign a new contract with new minimum term is illegal unless say, your accept a new piece of equipment as part of a new service.

Threaten them with Trading Standards if you fail to get the outcome you require.

Got a letter from Kcom, saying sorry and that it is only a new min term contact if you take the equipment, they put it down to a training issue and have apparently taken it up internally. Strange really as did not seem like a training issue to me, more like a lets con customers into agreeing to new fixed terms.
