This is disgusting, way to go rewarding your loyal customers KC well played...

Glad I got off their UK's worst internet when I did!

This just gives more reason for people to leave KC and join a alternative provider, treating customers this way is horrendous!

God I wish NextGen was available in Brough, I am seriously going to have to consider an 18 month contract on a bundle at this rate, the Max ADSL packages are starting to get expensive, for a shitty service. Its blatant blackmail of customers and it bloody stinks. Sad

Are the bundles going up tho, can't see any mention.... ?

Its simple, Older packages allow users to download unlimited quantities of data, This is very obstructive to the network (i should know). And as a result Karoo have a very detrimental thing here and would like to get this problem resolved as soon as possible, The best way to do this is to make the new packages more appealing, And to overcharge on the old packages and make it abundantely clear to the old customers that they are going to have things negatively sent their way.

Old packages = unlimited download = strain on network core = cost/affect on stability of service to others = negative = cost increase to get rid.

What an absolute piss take. It would be bad enough if they were just increasing line rental, but the net as well? Glad I jumped ship when I did.

this is absolutley crap. It's about time kc did something to provide decent speeds first then it would not be to bad paying a little more.
This is blatant blackmail to get people of the old packages ,and on to new ones, complete with 12 month contract!! talk about feathering your own nest.
Come on ngu or surebb get round to my area (hu74ly) and start offering your services.I can't wait to jump ship.
This latest increase as just spurred me on to become a thorn in kc side,I will and i urge all still on the old packages to hassle kc into providing the speeds they say they can deliver!!get what we pay for!!!!

come on simon (ngu) and joe (sbb) up the anti and get more of kc customers, start in my area though first!!

I cant say I am surprised.

The whole idea of the price rise are to force Hull people onto bundled - sorry, "enforced" bundled services which will make the enforced bundled packages look good value for money and there is a rush to tie customers into new long term contracts.

So where is Ofcom in regualation on retail pricing and forcing KC to publish Wholesale telephony pricing  to attract competition and force lower prices and better services through competition ? - Ofcom made an illegal move by removing the restriction on KC to maintain cost orientated charges in the provision of its services  even though the KC Monopoly still exists in Hull for lines, calls and broadband service.

Bring on the competition and investigation into Ofcom's role in not regulating the Hull market.

This is long overdue and wasn't EU investigators going to look into KC's illegal operations anyway? They should also look into handing out heavy daily fines to ofcon for as long as they continue to ignore KC's abusive position!

screw them i'm staying on my old package as long as i can, they have never given me any where near 8meg even off peak, at least once a week off peak i get disconnected numerous times, on peak the connection is always stable but at 0.5meg. doing a speedtest.net test the connection is great to the KC server 7meg constant to anywhere else it can be appalling not much more then dial up speeds. i'm not locking my self into a another contract, if any other decent providers come i want to be able to jump ship.

Old packages = unlimited download = strain on network core = cost/affect on stability of service to others = negative = cost increase to get rid.

let's just "do the math"...

From oldest package, to newest results given in TB/year.

Karoo Broadband 3000:
3456 kb/s max downstream, no peak time, no monthly limit
(3456 (kb / s)) * 365 day = 12.6879215 terabytes

Karoo Max (Option 4):
8128 kb/s max downstream, 6 hour peak time, 50GB monthly peak limit
(((8128 kb/s) * 18 hours) * 365) + ((50 GB) * 12) = 22.9660213 terabytes

Karoo Pro 2:
18000 kb/s max downstream, 16 hour peak time, 150GB monthly peak limit
(((18000 kb/s) * 8 hours) * 365) + ((150 GB) * 12) = 23.785454 terabytes

N.B. info taken from here http://www.karoo-user-group.co.uk/karoo_services/

I used to be on Max 3, and am now on Pro 2

I used to get ~800kB/s on Max 3, so assuming I was hammering my connection I'd be able to download 18.09TB over one year.
Now I'm on Pro 2, I max out at ~1.24MB/s, so under the same assumptions I'll be able to download 14.19TB over a year.

Really there's not much difference because the traffic shaping was (or at least seemed to be) a lot more stringent on the old Max packages, so you could rarely max it out over the whole 18 hours off peak. You'd get around 12 and then the connection would drop to ~25-50kB/s

I'm not a network engineer/manager so iunno how this is all managed, but I'm guessing they'll be wanting people off the old packages because they'll use different software, and for newer staff they'll need to teach them how to use three different systems instead of just the one..

There's nothing sinister about this at all.

But what do I know, eh...
