Hi

First post, so be gentle please! haha

I have never changed my package since I joined Karoo in approx 2005 and from looking at old letters it appears Im still on Broadband 500!!!  Paying £21.94 a month.

Im a very low user.  Just use generally to surf the net, play a bit of poker, tend my I-Tunes etc.  GB usage per month (according to Karoo's figures) is about 6GB per month.

I was just wondering whether it was worth me switching to on of their new packages (looking at Mid 1 for £17.36).

I was going to ring them and chat about it but thought I would get you guys' responses first because I want unbiased, honest and impartial advice and you seem like a good bunch.   So...

1.  What are the REAL pros and cons?

2.  Will it really only cost me £17.36 or will there be switching fees and new contract (I have a perfectly capable router so won't need one of theirs)?

3.  Would you switch in my shoes?

Cheers

My opinion from reading the forums is that the older deals like what your on are heavily throttled so you wont be getting the best speed. Im on a new deal and it seems ok. Why are you going for mid 1 if you might be able to manage with just a light (or should that be lite) package for £8.68 for 3 months then £13.28 thereafter but it does have a £30 setup charge. Or you could try one of the wireless providers, ive not got any experience with them as they dont cover my area but you might be ok where you live(i know some people hate karoo but ive found them ok so far).

Edit, you could even afford to go over a bit (lite is only 5 gb) and pay less than the mid.

Think the only advantage of the old packages is that there is no download limit, otherwise I would change to the new packages.

I remeber one of the really really old adsl packages and the limit was 1 gb a day which is fair enough, but the connection we had was only around 1 meg, unless you were really really lucky it wasnt even possible to hit that limit.

Wasn't it a 750MB limit back then? and it was fixed speed connections and also routers were forbidden i think, even though everyone used them.

Not like anyone really cared about the no router rule, i know i didn't and alot of people on hull forums back then happened to have routers and they didn't care either.

yep 750MB per 24 hours. it was connection sharing that was barred not routers but since that is what routers do then i guess they where by proxy ;-)

If you want to stay with KC, you're better off with a bundle, I've changed and pay £30 which is a bit more than I used to pay for Talk 1 and Karoo Mid but I'm getting more allowance that I hardly touch and get the same free calls I got with the Utility Warehouse.
