How long ago was that? A friend of mine has had his macbook since 2009 and his hasn't needed repairing. Period. So either you've had a rare duff one or you're like me and put your stuff through hell. Had a dell that went the same way.
It's a new'ish one. Probably about 3 or 4 years old. It has been retired now because the screen keeps going blank (screen controller or lose wire). You might be right, but for me personally it's enough of a reason not to by another. To be fair to Apple, the warranty service was brilliant. There was never any questions or quibles about fixing it.
I use a Lenovo Thinkpad now. The build quality is excellent.
