Hi All,

I have a strange problem here, just got a P-660HW-T1 V3 to replace my rock solid no brand thing which bit the dust last week and its acting very odd.

When I first installed it all, if would just never connect to my Karoo connection, the DSL light comes on GREEN fine, but the Internet light would stay RED, when I reset it to factory defaults and started again it seemed fine.

Now when ever I reboot the thing (I don't leave it switched on generally) it RED lights on the Internet. I have to re-enter my details 2 or 3 times and mess around changing from Multimode to G.DMT a bit and then it finally decides to GREEN light. If I leave it, it just stays RED. Seems no set pattern. It would be nice if I could see what its actually doing on authenticating with my Karoo account.

Any ideas? Is it faulty? Its a bloody odd fault thought. Once its connected its rock solid. I just don't want to leave it on permanently. Its using the latest firmware btw.

Edit: oddly, resetting the ADSL line in the diagnostics can get the green light back too.

Log, when its working:

See if you can obtain another modem to check that your Zyxel is not knackered (which seems the likeliest scenario).

According to Zyxel the latest firmware is newer than the version you are running.

http://ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/P-660HW-T1_v3/firmware/P-660HW-T1%20v3_3.70(BJZ.10)C0.zip

It might be worth upgrading to see if this resolves your issue. Generally these routers are rock solid so the fact that you are having problems is surprising. Maybe KC can give you an insight into what is going on.

Is your multiplexing setting correct?

VPI: 1
VCI: 50
Encapsulation: RFC2364 PPPoATM
Modulation: G.dmt
Multiplexing: LLC
Authentication: CHAP

I will have a look, I am sure I picked the latest firmware on the European site. As for settings they must be correct as eventually it does connect.

I have a new issue with it and utorrent though with it moaning about too many NAT connections even when its on the maximum 2048 per host and I have turned utorrent settings right down on the nymber of connections.

I'll check out this firmware.

Thx.

Edit: New firmware seems to fix the torrent issue, the connecting issue seems the same although I noticed that if my PC is OFF while the modem is negotiating the CHAP connection its fine, green ever time. If the PC is on its 75% fails, and 25% green. ODD!!!!

I used the Zyxel (some years ago) for some time and it is a peculiarity with this router. It has trouble with assigning IP/DNS before it has negotiated the DSL connection. It can be very temperamental. I did eventually move to the Thompson because the Zyxel is not very good at coping with noise on the line. But hey we cant have perfection even though we should lol. Good luck with it and providing it is stable I would stay with it.
