Was there really a byelaw in Hull preventing TV Aerials?

The discovery of an old Rediffusion cable running between my house and the one opposite got me looking through the rediffusion pages on the hack hull site. Was it really a byelaw that we could not have a TV aerial then? How did this come about?

I've never heard of such a by-law, as far as I know, Rediffusion was an option that allowed you to recieve more channels, just like a cable service would today.

Keep in mind I wasn't alive when Rediffusion was around, so I only know what I've read or been told by people that used/worked on it.

No, but i do believe there was a law or bylaw that says you can't have more than 1 TV aerial without some sort of planning permission..

I was an early teen when we still had Rediffusion, memories of the whole family gathered around the box waiting for Starview. I remember the worst thing was that you could only use specially adapted games consoles, we had a binatone

Had Redifusion radio programs at school & redifusion TV at home, which had dial on the wall & then latter a set top box.

Also had an 512k Atari ST which came from Tomorrow's World
