Does anyone know if you have to have the static IP for these packages? i'd prefer a dynamic one that changes when i restart my router like on my current "Max" package.
Short and sweet so i'll ask another;
What sort of speeds you reckon i should see on a "up to 24mbps" connection during peak times, living in HU4 Anlaby Road near Calvert Lane?
Thanks
Obii

If thats your current speedin your signature I wouldn't expect much of a speed boost. I could be wrong tho.

Stay put on the MAX package if i were you!
The newer packages ain't much good, and they have a download cap which the older ones didn't if you keep your main usage outside of peaktime 6pm-midnight

Don't let everybody con you with having a download limit. How much do you honestly download? add to that the increased cost of the old packages and the fact that they are throttled to death why wouldn't anybody want to upgrade.

Do you honestly work for KCOM? I have never known ANYONE that has had a better service 'upgrading' to these newer packages which you claim are less throttled when they not.

Thankfully you will not be permitted to have a static IP address when upgrading from MAX to ADSL 2. As a previous Max user myself I noticed a dramatic speed increased from 7MB to 16MB with tweaking of coarse. I presume however that the users who commented on this thread are aware of the traffic shaping system KC have in place. The difference between the two services (beside speed) is that one receives a higher prioritisation than the other, meaning that I for instance will receive a better service in times of congestion or peak hours than you. Sometimes the speed of a connection plays a small factor in the quality of service received, one must take into account line stability and performance at peak times. Although I could inform you of the speeds likely to be receive with ADSL2 on that line, just post your connection information as a response. I say go for it, improvements will be noticed without a doubt but how much is yet to be known however. (need that info) Here is me on Max: Here is me on ADSL 2:

Its all good and well having unlimited but if you only use say 5 then whats the point. And no i dont work for KC but im on the new scheme and ive had very few problems with it (sometimes i think im the i only one that has ).

Those download speeds look very wrong for the area you live in. What speed does your router currently connect at ?

The new packages aren't "throttled" in anyway, especially since the KC Network upgrades earlier this year. Calvert Lane is just round the corner from the West exchange, so you should be connected at the maximum speed of 8128/448 if you are on MAX; if you were to upgrade you should see quite a significant increase in your connection speed and download speeds, depending on your distance and if your internal wiring is correct, you would probably be looking at 18Mbit+ You can have a static or dynamic IP, it's up to you. Dynamic by default. Try your postcode in the KC speed checker: http://www.kc.co.uk/home

They don't restrict NNTP or filesharing traffic at peak time?

If you use up your 100-150GB of peak usage, you can always schedule your downloads for midnight-8am which is unmetered.
