thought id ask here if anyone knows if you can get a PCI Dual Ethernet card? I know you can get PCI Express & eXtended ones but i need just a straight PCI one. Do they even exist?
Or can you use a PCI eXtended card in a PCI slot?

There seem to be a few on eBay. Though they do indeed seem to be mostly PCI-Express and PCI-64.

I don't believe that the standard PCI interface has the bandwidth necessary for such a card, though I did once see some four-way ones that used standard PCI, but that was a long time ago.

In answer to your question, you can only use normal PCI-32 cards with a normal PCI-32 slot. How old is the machine? Most machines have the short PCI-Express slots in these days and they rarely get used.

Its a thin client and only has one PCI slot Sad Max throughput for PCI is 133MB IIRC but thats fine for what i need.

Those mobos ought to be outlawed, I remember the small computers of the 90's, there was something called a riser card, they should make them like that again.

As a second option, why do you need two links? If you aren't fussed about speed you could use a PCI card and a USB Ethernet device... USB Devices probably only have a throughput of about 12MB though, but they may have improved since I dabbled in such things.

USB is an option i have considered just don't wont a dongle hanging from the unit. Guess i could hack a connector together and use the internal USB header but i think that header USB1.1 Sad

If you didn't mind butchering things a bit you could connect the lead to a USB 2.0 plug at the bacy, run the wire into a hole in the case and use a space for a serial header to screw the USB Ethernet adaptor to, I did something similar with my TV card's remote cable, and most of my systems have had a switch in spare serial headers for resetting the CMOS...

After reading your posts, im guessing you dont have any pci express slots. If you did (and i only found this out recently) a pcie x1 card wil fit in a x4, x8 and a x16 slot.

Yeah that i know Roll Eyes

I know PCI cards work in PCI eXtended slots thats why i asked if you can use PCI-X in PCI slots. Which as it turns out you can but they must be PCI 2.2. think the bus on the thin client is pci 2.1 so may just get away with it!
