We had Nextgenus installed on 15th August. All tickety boo for a couple of weeks, but then the service started to deterioriate, and continues to do so. And now they're messing about with the FUP and I'm unimpressed.

We live off Princes Ave - what are the alternatives like now? Any tales of joy or woe gratefully received!

SureBroadband if they cover you are likely your best bet.

Seems a bit strange that you want the world to know where this guy lives... What car does he drive?

Just thought I should remind everone that this forum is publically accessible.

Aside from that, I would also reccomend Sure from what I have seen, though having never used the service I don't have much to go on with that.

I suppose people have to have some idea of where folk are so that they can recommend a provider in the area. I think I'd have to agree with the others, surebroadband seems to be a pretty good bet at the moment.

If the guy answered then it would be he whom gave his location away. I merely asked the question so that i had an insight into what options he has in his location (but you didn't think of that i assume?), its an open question in which the person can choose to or not to answer.

(Thanks for noticing dylan, at least you are open minded enough to see sense)

I shouldn't have to dignify that with a response, but what the hell, I haven't got anything better to do right now.

It would appear you didn't read my post properly, firstly, we already know the area he lives in, and services usually cover areas based on postcodes - at least in their documentations. Secondly my words were

and I don't think I have to write anything else on the matter as my original post justifies why your assumption is incorrect.

Anyway, if you were giving him the chance not to answer (which it appears he did not want to in his second post) you shouldn't have tried to answer it for him, but whatever, I assume this is a simple mistake, and I'm sure it wasn't deliberate.

Why we left Karoo for Surebroadband:

I and my partner were customers of KC for 20 years and never defaulted.  So why did we leave?

1.  We only needed a telephone line for broadband and felt that we were paying for a service that we did not need.

2.  KC introduced their “talk” plans to give “everyone” a better deal.  It did not give us a better deal as it meant that we were now paying more for calls that we were not making – in fact it felt like we were subsidising other KC customers who were making more calls.  How was this a better service paying for something you did not use?

3.  Introduction of charging people to receive a “bill”.

4.  Introduction of charges for “withheld” numbers.

5.  Charging over £13 month for 5 gig download limit.

6.  Introducing 18 month contracts hence no incentive to move to another package and be tied in even more.

7.  Charge of £3 for every gig you went over your 5 gig limit - even if you went 1kb over.

8.  Making us 2nd Class Customers with the “KC Phone Care” package of £1.99 a month.  As this package states you get “VIP” response service if you have a fault and you will receive a “priority service”.  This clearly means that other customers who do not pay this extra £1.99 a month will receive a lesser service, i.e. if I have a fault on my phone and someone else has a fault on their phone (but they pay the £1.99 extra a month) then they get their problem sorted out before I do.

9.  KC Bill Increases – why can’t they be upfront with their bill increases?  The last notification of a bill increase was more like a marketing flyer.  It was not headed “bill increase” or anything to do with an increase in the bill.  Instead the notification of an increase in my bill was three-quarters of the way down the letter under a paragraph headed “Proud to bring Britain's best value to you”.  The paragraph itself was not even headed with “bill increase”. I asked other people about the notification of their bill increase and they had not even realised it was a bill increase but thought that it was a marketing flyer and has just binned it.

10.  Choosing to introduce the new fibre into Woodmansey first, instead of benefiting their own local Hull customer base first, for example, there have been good arguments put forward for the University area being a prime area to receive fibre first or the business community.

11.  Lack of Imagination and Innovation in their Packages.  Why not offer broadband only but just have to pay line rental and not be able to make any outgoing calls?  Why not carry forward any unused gigabytes per month onto your next month?  Why not offer a wireless package on the lines of Nextgenus and Surebroadband? Why not simply offer a PAYG package/service?

12.  No response to complaints sent via email to their customer services team – just simply ignored.

13.  Having to wait over 20 minutes to get through to their technical help desk.  Hanging up several times having already waited 10 minutes or more to get through to their technical help desk.

Like many people on this site we have waited and waited for competition to come to Hull for broadband, it is at last here.  We have moved to Surebroadband and got rid of our landline.  It is actually cheaper to use our mobiles to make any calls – and pay for what we use.  We now have 30 gig limit which is 6 times what we had with Karoo; it is faster than Karoo was and costs just over £1.50 more a month.  It was a no brainer.  We no longer feel that we are subsidising other phone users or being taken for granted.  KC you have lost good paying customers of yours for over 20 years.  When I rang up to cancel the broadband and telephone there was not even an offer to stay with them – such as reducing the charges for so many months or trying to move us onto other packages at a preferential rate (albeit even temporary) for being non-defaulting customers for 20 years.  It is good to be free.

Great post, lubuntu.

I cannot understand why KC do not provide a 'broadband only' package. That and the increased cost for what I percieved to be inadequate services is what prompted me to move.

It's great to be free.

Only Virgin Media offer broadband only, as far as I know - ADSL comes in over phone lines, so you have to have it. But I agree, line only with no calls would suit me fine.
