About time!

Quote
From April next year, providers will no longer be able to advertise maximum speeds for net packages unless 10% of customers can actually get them.

this is the BBC link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-15105760

Will be interesting to see the new speed adverts - but as "Which" state companies can advertise the speeds that only the top 10% of customers are getting - which is not much good for the other 90%.

Lol, this is brilliant.

Other companies can't get away with advertising falsely, so god knows why Broadband ones have been able to do it for years.

Glad it's coming to an end though.

er providers have never lied about speeds though! they always include the term 'Up To" in their adverts, So really nothing has changed. BT,Virgin and even KC must have at least the required 10% of customers that can and do hit the advertised upto speed anyway.

There is absolutly no wasy that either BT or KC have 10% of customers hitting the advertised upto speeds.
Don't know the exact figure for KC but for BT less than 1% of customers get the full 20Mb/s and less than 4% of customers get the full 8Mb/s.
Can't see KC's figures being a great improvement on this, although would expect them to be a bit better.
All others will be just the same as BT's as they use the BT network.
Any operators offering up to 24Mb/s are lying through their teeth as no one will get this.

Virgin and the other small cable operators are honest with their speeds as nearly all customers will get the top speed ( or near enough to it. )

As TJ says ,you would have to literally plug straight into the exchange to get anyware near the top end of the "up to" number so the % is very low

Maybe we will see a rush of new adverts claiming speeds up to 30MB just to try and grab more customers before the new advertising regs come in?!

The KC postcode checker now gives you a range that your speed will be, it's a lot better than saying 'upto 24 meg'

No.. the Postcode checker will give you a range but that's not necasserily what you will get, for example, mine is 8meg but set at this value it's very unstable, in fact it only becomes stable at around 6/6.5 meg. of course I'm still paying for 8!  Huh?

It gives you an approximation of speed based on everyone else in your post code.
