Going back to Karoo was the best thing I did.

STABILITY is more important than super speeds every so often, in my opinion anyway.

I recently went back to Karoo and having the stability and reliability is invaluable.  I am lucky and was getting 15mb DL with karoo before leaving them but I did not use my landline and it was dead money.  The UL is very slow (about 70-80k) but that is more than adequate for my uses.  I have found that the key thing for me was reliability - not cost saving.  All I can say is do not spite yourself but whats the point in having the internet if you cannot get on when you want to and then cannot use it when you do get on?!

I think everyones circumstances are different but if you are not happy and the problem hasn't been sorted in the time scale that you was told it would be sorted then that's not good.  At least I get online now all the time when I want to and no massive swings in speed - a steady, reliable 15mb DL - oh and I use my landline as much as possible now to try and screw as much out of them as I can!

^ This times 10!

Stability is key, you wouldn't pay for any other utility where you where not confident that it would be available when you needed it. Outages occur but the wireless option in hull is just not reliable enough.

Its not just technical problems either, its the lack of support and back office operations. On the whole Karoo customer service has improved greatly over recent years, where I understand SBB has a friendly approach Nextgenus are a complete shower. They changed the FUP right under everyones feet to mask the lack of infrastrucure investment and their recently acquired support staff (hello /wave) are insulting and act in a potentially illegal way, certainly as regards the Data Protection Act. (see how I covered myself there  Tongue)

The speeds look tempting but no use owning a Ferrari with only a half gallon in the tank which breaks every 100 yards.

Have a look at this graph showing my DL speed with 2 different providers (wireless and wired) - from 7th October it is with Karoo, look at the stability, practically a straight line.  Before this I was with a wireless provider - plus I now have a dynamic IP address with Karoo!

http://www.speedtest.net/results.php?sh=0bf2086d0df59f1e8f0f8c5a93dd0bfa&ria=0

Depending what you answer to this question I think dictates which way you may be inclined to jump:

"If I could not get connected to the internet to do something or the speed was really slow would you think":

a) oh well I can do that tomorrow, no rush, chill man  or
b) god damn it! I need to check that email and do some important work or I really wanted to do that download tonight, I am so angry (kicking the dog)

If you answer (a) then you are a prime candidate for wireless, if its (b) then you need to think seriously about wired.

One more consideration is what your current speed is with Karoo if its:

a) 8MB plus and you answered (b) above then seriously think of staying with Karoo, or moving back to them.  If you answered (a) above then there must be a financial reason for moving from Karoo if you have a reliable speed above 8mb.

b) 5MB-8MB (below 8MB affects browsing hence a category of below 8MB) and you answered (b) above stay with Karoo, if you answered (a) above then you are a possible wireless customer

c) between 2MB-5mb and you answered (b) above then you must have some seriously important work you use the internet for to stay with Karoo.  If you answered (a) above then you have most probably contacted a wireless provider already

d) below 2mb - What you still with Karoo?! Seriously?!

Anyone else have any take on this?  I think the 4 considerations are:

1.  The need on a scale of 1-10 of a reliable connection
2.  Type of user (high, medium or light) - the heavier the user (in MB not stone!) the more reliable a connection you need
3.  The speed you are getting with Karoo
4.  Cost - your financial situation.

(modified a few times)

Karoo are a lot better than they were. I always get around 9meg and I can't remember when the last time I lost a connection was and I'm paying a reasonable amount each month with a bundle.
