Since leaving Airnet almost one year ago now! I have been watching the alternative suppliers, again Airnet/ NGU mainly as these seem to be the most popular I guess? the way I see it today is Airnet don't appear to have made much improvement since last year, NGU appeared to start off almost unbeatable with their supply & service but I'm seeing quite an increase in, dare I say 'unsatisfied customer comments' mainly on the facebook page... I've go 4 months of my Karoo contract left to run and I'm trying to decide if there's a better, not necessarily cheaper, alternative that will give ma a service as good as Karoo which to be fair have been excellent in the last year!

Hi Ace,
Long time no see!
Airnet has improved a fair bit but it's still very unstable. I wouldn't touch NextGenUS with a bargepole. The only wireless provider which seems to be managing OK is Sure Broadband.
Personally, i'm holding out for KC to offer fibre without a phone line. If they don't then i'll stay with Airnet. They aren't perfect but it fits my needs.

Thanks Jam Yeah I've been poping in from time to time but to be honest not really had any major issues as such. Fibre without a phone line would be nice, is that realistically going to be an option? I've not heard a awful lot about Sure Broadband TBH, maybe I should give them a look.. Cheers for your comments

If its relaibility you need most then stick with Karoo as there are no alternatives as far as reliability is concerned. I went to SBB for a few weeks and it was not relaible for me (I cannot speak about other SBB customers some of whom are very happy with the service) - I went back to Karoo. I now use my landline more than I ever have done and I utilise the KC "free" weekend landline to mobile minutes to transfer minutes to my giff gaff goodybag.
If your contract ends in 4 months then you can just sit it out and see what Karoo does without renewing your contract. Its maybe worth calling SBB to see if they will agree to you doing a trial for a month or two and if you are not happy with it then amicably agree to leave? But maybe do this whilst you still have Karoo.
Depends which part of Hull you live as well - I know SBB are moving into East Hull ( I am west Hull) and also what speed you are getting from Karoo now. If you are getting more than 10mb DL and you need reliability then I would stay with karoo IMHO.

Hi Gallimaufry... I'm in East Hull mate, just to pick up on a few of your comments. At the moment I'm intending to sit it out and see what Karoo come up with for sure, I'm a bit nervous about about jumping ship too hastily as I've been bitten before doing that... At the moment I'm capable of getting 8mb DL but it's a little unstable TBH so had Karoo reduce it to 6.5/7mb which is good. The reason I ask is because I've not read anything on the alternative suppliers that convinces me they have a better or more stable service than Karoo.. Cheaper for sure but not necessarily better!

Without doubt my Karoo connection was much more stable. Airnet is faster most of the time, but the stability of speed is nowhere close. NextGenUS is miles faster too but that's been shown to be a bit of a sham now. I'd only recommend wireless to someone that doesn't mind if the speed isn't always there or that the latency might be crap one day and great the next. I just don't think it works on the scale that they want it to. I'm only sticking with it because of the cost savings from not having a landline (and, to be fair, it does what I need it to).

Yeah Jam, my kids are running two Xbox's wireless simultaneously which was a nightmare when using Airnet... Primary use has to be for online gaming so it has to be consistent with low ping's ..

NGU slung me out of their Facebook pages for complaining about the service! I really couldn't recommend them to anyone until they sort out their bandwidth provisioning.

Yeah I follow the FB page I gathered they had banned a few people for making ''Unsavoury'' comments... Always worries me when companies don't like anything bad said about them... It's a bit like ebay sellers...if there's a 1000 customers send good feedback, one feels confident, but if they are 50/50 good /Bad.. then you take a risk if you decide to go with it ...

Yeah, I had a comment deleted on a different website but still NGU. This was before they started in Hull or they were very new in the area. Basicly said what the public would percieve them to be and it was deleted. A simple observation

Yeah cheers Gareth... TBH I'm a further year down line since my last experience and must admit none of them fill me with any confidence yet!

Sit tight, Only consider NGU if you like ridiculous DL limits and swingeing caps, not to mention the surly (at best) customer service attitude and atmosphere of zero criticism that makes China look like the Netherlands. Apart from that they are great!

Doesn't sound as though any of the 'Alternatives' are doing very well at the moment does it! I've had a reasonably trouble free year with Karoo so may as well stick with them for now...
