I'm curious, where does everyone think the internet will realistically be in terms of speed, network architecture and bandwidth availability in say, 50, 100, even 200 years?
What will Hull look like as far as choice and availability goes? Will KC/Karoo even exist?

Just thinking about it makes my mind implode, but it will be interesting to see everyone's thoughts.

Too mind boggling Scotty - but this is interesting:

I think there will be a lag in speeds/hardware to be able to cope with the new technologies - a bit like the implementation of space equipment into everyday life.  Karoo/KC will not be here in 50 years because they will have spent millions re-branding themselves and will have morphed into something virtual.  One thing is for sure - the West will not be leading the way - it will be China.

I don't know about where Karoo will be but I think in a hundred years the world will be pretty different. I reckon Internet will be ubiquitous and invisible. It'll be built into everything we own and delivered over wireless somehow. I also imagine medical implants will allow people to interface directly with the Internet i.e. remote monitoring of medical conditions, quick lookup of information, tracking of location...

I reckon that the internet as we know it know will seem as archaic as morse code does to us now. I would imagine, as Dylan says, that the need for wires etc will disappear altogether.. I once read about broadband being delivered from massive airship/balloon things. Running the network from the air would surely have some advantages over running it through the ground?

Who knows. Wish I was born a 100 years from now though. Maybe they'll have sorted out all the sh*t that's happening now  Grin

I think we will have to buy our broadband from Tesco/Morisons/Asda/Sainsburys...  Smiley
