Are they disappearing then? I heard they were getting acquired by a private equity group.

Do not expect to see any stores closing soon.

Longer term though who knows... Times are hard for brick'n'mortar electrical stores and they are not going to get any easier, not with increasing numbers of people shopping on that interweb thingy.

Sounds like too much aggravation though buying any large electrical appliance that you may need to sort out later under the Sale of Goods Act - not worth the extra hassle.  And then what will happen after 18 months?  Who will be responsible for the warranties and customer service?  No doubt the new company will "buy" these as well but still too many questions and not enough answers at the moment so I will be giving them a wide berth.  And what will happen to the customer service base in George Street, Hull, after 18 months?

[edit] I remember buying something from Courts years ago (Clough Road, Hull) and what a load of hassle it was trying to get a refund on one of those extended warranties cos Courts had gone bust and another company was responsible and then something happened to them!

I know what you mean. Although how much hassle you have depends on the corporate attitude that's prevalent within the company itself rather than technicalities. That's why John Lewis is popular for its CS and DSG purely for marketing and presence.

Comet customer service has gotten worse over the last few years. Any flimsy excuse will be grasped at to avoid responsibility.

I was very sceptical about Comet customer service simply from what friends had told me about their experiences.

However, credit where credit is due here - Comet have said that they will fit a new LCD to my TV at no cost.

I hand delivered a letter to them a few weeks ago outlining SOGA and my rights and their responsibilities which I think helped as it shows that you cannot be fobbed-off with the usual excuses like "its out of warranty" or "go to the manufacturer".

Is that Comet and KC improving customer service - whats happening!
