Hi All

Nice to have somewhere to come and ask about Karoo stuff.

After reading about the new packages I decided to have a look once again at the gigabyte usage in the account control panel.

After adding 20gb since midnight I'm a little concerned as this never used to happen or did it.  I was under the impression that between midnight and 6pm was classed as off peak so doesn't count towards the monthly usage!

Anyone know how it works?

Yeah this was a concern of mine.

After speaking to Tech Support the usage meter counts all bandwidth used both on peak and off peak.

Therefore it's upto us the customer to keep an eye on usage during peak times.

Yes, ie the control panel is bloody useless for Max and the new Karoo Pro. Maybe KC thought it better to change the packages to suit their crappy outdated control panel than to invest some time in making it useful.

Its even more strange when Entanet resellers give you an accurate reading both peak and off-peak on their control panels.

Ah well, just another thing Karoo can't be arsed to provide I suppose.

Cheers

"Check Your Gigabyte Usage"

I always assumed it was a tool to help obviously it's pretty useless unless you only use your connection at peak hours.  Can somebody confirm what the peak hours are if your on Max.

Could they have changed how they are measuring as the following certainly suggests that!  As you can see my transmitted data looks average for this time of the month where the received is way up!  If anything it should be dropping as I use the NG's much less at the minute!

I've rounded the figures

                                        TR        RD      Total

Current billing period:    1.00   31.00    32.00
Previous billing period:  7.00    30.00    37.00

Worries me a little with the new charges for going over your usage limits and no I've not switched package.

6pm to midnight is peak on Max, the control panel just records all traffic, regardless of if its peak or off-peak.

http://www.karoo.co.uk/broadband/fair_usage_policy.asp

The fair usage policy currently relates to the Karoo Max service only. The table below shows the number of gigabytes (GB) per month that maybe transferred during peak hours which are from 6pm until midnight every day.

Your transmitted data should be very low with usenet as it requires very little and should not affect it much. I would suggest its something else. Started using BBC iPlayer or something?

I would not be worried just yet, I don't think anyone has been forced onto the new packages at the moment. Smiley

Well decided to check my total usage for the month and hmmm 300gb.  That's about what I'd expect for total usage so what use is the usage meter for keeping on top of your peak usage?

I know that the vast majority of this was off peak so wil see what my bill brings, hopefully no surprises.

Guess I'm a heavy user

Well I just come back from holiday, computers been OFF all of May so far and checked my usage and it says I have used 26.5 Gig!!!!

I dont have wireless, I dont have any other people accessing my PC so its been OFF the whole month so far and Karoo say I have used 26.5 Gig.

Not bothered because I am on unlimited BUT if I was on a package where I had to pay for excess then I would be really pissed.

Written to krappoo for an explanation, will wait and see.

Isn't the page based on billing date not beginning of the month? so you might have some of before you left in your stats.

Correct, my current billing period is Usage from 16-Apr-2008 23:06 to 26-May-2008 15:46  and my GB usage so far is 12.4GB, considering I have been doing some heavy downloading I am pleased with the new Pro option. I schedule most of my downloads between middnight and 8am , therefore my downloads are not counted in my monthly allowance.
