Gents,  my friend has two laptops one with Vista and one XP.......She is
using my Dell tower trialling Linux.   All was well connecting to the
internet.  However following a lost connection with Karooa few days ago (for over two
hours), on reconnecting she cannot access the wireless router using
either xp or vista.  The dell tower connects fine and so does my laptop running linux.
I have disabled the security setting so only using mac filtering as
protection and still no connection?Huh?Huh?  Any ideas?

Her wireless is a Netgear so I'm wondering if some of the settings have been scrambled?  It is strange as it is only affecting XP and Vista.

Hi teejay,

So, you're not using WPA or WEP, and you're using network-manager to connect with Linux (at a guess), but are you using the built in networking megubbins for XP/Vista, or are you using the manufacturer supplier wireless configuration utility?

On the Windows machines, are you getting issued an IP address from the router and can you ping it?

If you're using the inbuilt wireless config, try the manufacturer config tool (or vice versa), any differences?
