But again, it's publicized by a company that lets ISP's buy results in 'best buy tables'....

I guess the truth, good or bad, will come out when the data starts coming in from the Sam Knows tests that are about to begin on KC's network. That will give a true impartial picture of Karoo's service.  Grin

having used many other isp's over the country i'm not surprised Karoo have done fairly well. there are so many ISP's that are as bad or worse than Karoo.... but the majority of them are a good deal cheaper than Karoo.

with my connection I get 800k/s between 0000 and about 1700. Otherwise i get 200~ on HTTP services. This is with Option 2. This isn't too bad right? not like it was when Karoo 8meg first came out (5k/s on everything... you all remember!)

with my averages i suppose Karoo would rank a lot better than most isp's, other isps seem to throttle more or less constantly. Not to mention Virgin who throttles you down if you download more than a certain amount. I would question their results on that basis? Even though some isp's throttle constantly, they do perform better at peak in my experience. Karoo really sucks bad at peak time, especially with usenet/etc. They should test the ISP's at peak only. Then it would get interesting.

the lines here in Hull are also pretty good, i've never had a line that didn't sync @ 8meg. I know it's smaller copper! Some of my friends down south in big 80's/90's sink housing estates have aluminum wiring and can only sync at 2meg despite being only a mile from the exchange. The survey doesn't list sync speeds?? Though eclipse came close to Karoo, so i would doubt line sync speeds having anything to do with it.

It would be interesting to compile a list of all Karoo Forums users and see what their line stats are.

Hi Willcocks,

I supposed it'd be fairer to say that you've been lucky with lines rather than lines in Hull are good mate  Wink

I think the common consensus is that on the whole, KC's lines are pretty shoddy.

In regards to the lines been "Good" I have to agree with dylan on them been pretty shoddy , Most of the line stats iv seen from users in Beverley are pretty grim; unless of course they are relatively close to the exchange & In regards to my line .... Terrible, Constant problems, You must be lucky to have had all lines that sync at 8128.

Also i would like to see all of karoo forum memebers stats on a database somewhere to compare stats , Dylan, would this be possible?

Cheers,

I cant see a problem with this..

what do you think the fields would be?   and how do you think the info should be presented?

If you (fellow karoo forum members) are willing to provide direction and feedback to this little sub-project then i cant see a problem..

Shouldn't be to difficult, it could be implemented into smf's profile fields then just a simple php page to show graphs from all the users.

Or a separate page on site with seperate database (smf would probably be better as stats could be updated)

Fields could be the basic stats most routers can give,
Sync speed Down and UP
Line Attenuation Down and UP
Noise Margin Down and UP

so there is 500,1000, 2000, 3000, max 1-4, Lite, Mid and Pro  Kiss

500-3000 will be done away with soon Wink
