I rang tech helpdesk last night as I was getting 600kb on speedtest - they reset my line a couple of times and noticed that my snr was fluctuating between 4~7.  They said even though I wasn't getting any disconnects, this was most likely why i was getting slow throughputs.  Forget to ask them why I get over 6.5 meg after about 1am then.
They restricted my down speed from full whack to just under 7 meg and that put my snr fluctuating between 8 and 12.

Anyway - I finally managed to set up the Thompson they sent me when I went onto Pro and my snr has gone up to 14.  Tried to get beck to them for them to put my speed back up but it had gone past 9 and t'phone just rang and rang.  I assume they go home then.

Will get back onto them tonight and see it makes any difference to my line.

 Huh?

Hi. all. New here and not technicaly gifted when it comes to all the technical terms used on here.

Have just switched from Karoo Max to Karoo Mid.

Karoo Max downloads were 1051 kbps

Karoo Mid downloads are 1650 kbps
It does not seem very fast to me and this is supposed to be ADSL 2?

Using Netgear  DG834G V3, postcode HU5  (National Ave area)

Is it just me?

Hi brotherboard,

If the figures you have posted are in bytes, that's the figures internet explorer would display or most download managers. Then you have a really healthy amount of bandwidth there.

1051 kilobytes * 8 = 8.4 Megabit line
1650 kilobytes * 8 = 13.2 Megabit line

If you log into your Netgear the first page you will see what your line speed is in bytes.

I'm think those figures are kbps (kilo bits) or am i getting it wrong?
I got them from here http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/
They would equate to 201.46 KB or 1.65 MB

I'll check the Netgear first page as you suggested when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the reply BTW

sorry to reply to my own post but as an update to the above I e-mailed karoo help desk on Saturday morning about the problem. got back tonight and found the test readings have jumped up to 4241 kbps from 1051 on Thursday.  Grin

My netgear router status page is now showing  DownStream Connection Speed 6558 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1021 kbps
Don't know what they have done but  isn that around 6.4 MB ? a massive jump from 1.5.

What's your downstream SNR now then? And what is your attenuation?

update on slow browsing I am still having problems with browsing and now the down loads are slow the best is about 4000kbps after midnight  and about 3200 kbps mid morning. after tea and up to 10pm the best is about 1000kbps and packet loss and slow ping time all the time. karoo said they will improve after Sunday repairs but it has not !
