Hi All,
First post - just as a way of introduction I am group IT manager for a Hull organisation (HQ in Hull but national (not KC!)).
Has anybody any idea what is going on today - smacks of an upgrade gone wrong or a core access router failure but getting any information from them is difficult - account manager has not even bothered to respond to my calls.
It's unbelievable that in a city the size of Hull we just but up with this - apathy rules both in the public and business sector and I am looking to try and get some momentum going to try and force a change in Hull in the provision of business and home internet access.
We need choice and we need it quickly...

CPC/Farnell by any chance? What you said looks about right, but also for some reason we are not able to connect or pickup an IP address on the ADSL! Looks like many things have gone wrong or the ADSL BRAS etc... is past the broken piece of kit

They may say that their service is still up but even Karoo's own website ( www.karoo.co.uk and www.kcom.com) don't work... I got a friend to try and do a DNS lookup for karoo.co.uk so we can ping the ip, and even that would not yield an IP....

I managed to speak to an account manager @ KCOM this afternoon. Apparently this problem is effecting the whole national KCOM network. This does seem like an upgrade gone wrong, last time the network went down because KCOM forgot to upgrade the memory on their core routers to support the full BGP table and we all had to wait a week for the memory to be installed. My guess is this will go on days not hours.
Just out of interest don't most credit card transactions require an internet uplink? Guess this outage will effect more than just IT managers it's the high streets problem too.
Thanks very much KCOM, there had better be a good explanation for this fiasco!

Unless they call the interruption of service an Act of God (as per the service agreement contract we signed). KCom's sites still down...
