Hi,

Any idea why I can't stream from the BBC news site properly anymore, news clips seem to stutter and buffer constantly?

Please try:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7659975.stm

Cheers,

Edit: I guess its a ploy by krapoo to get me to upgrade seen as ADSL2+ customers seem to have no trouble, lol

Me: (Max Option 1)

ADSL2+

Because Karoo's traffic management for the old packages is permantely restricting ALL traffic during the evenings and weekends and causing packet loss.

I reported this a month ago and have now exchanged in excess of 30 emails with technical support.  We still have no solution, I have just 10 minutes ago sent off an official complaint on the subject.

Hit the nail on the head.  Karoo asked me to do some tests before, during and after one weekend.  During the weekend, I could watch BBC stuff perfect, and everything else was fast too.  Before and after the weenend I was plagued with the problems.  What had Karoo done but not told me, fixed the problem?  No, they temporarily upgraded me to Karoo Pro!

To "resolve" the problem that you were having, we temporarily upgraded you onto our Pro package, from the Option 2 package that you are currently on.

Unfortunately, you are the only customer to experience these problems, so we don't believe that this is an issue with traffic management or the package itself.

If this was any other service, I would have cancelled it by now and gone elsewhere, but we can't do that can we, I don't know what I do now, just live with it?  I aint paying for Karoo Pro, they need to get their services in order. Huh?

What email address did you use to complain, I am going to have to get another formal complaint in. You certainly are not the only person suffering with it.

*sigh*

I dont expect full speed 24/7 but I expect to be able to stream those sources all the time, I mean BBC, Youtube, Last.fm are hardly requiring that much bandwidth!!

Firstly, I contacted technical support, they were dealing with it, the main name that came up repeatedly was Jenny, but I think the tickets are picked up by the next free person.  To initiate this, email help at kcom.com.

My complaint has been emailed to customerservices at karoo.co.uk .  Ask them to log as a formal complaint, you will receive an acknowledgement within a few days by email and letter, and a response* by post from Helen Haynes within 28 days.

*Usually the response details how Karoo is a contended service with traffic shaping, and that how the helpdesk fixed a random problem you reported in the past.  Complain in 3 successive months and you get a free month I have found.

You can also email Helen Haynes directly, Helen.Haynes at kcom.com, but this is probably the wrong way to log a complaint.

If you know how to use any packet capture software, such as Wireshark, I would ask you to start capturing, and try iPlayer or streaming and see if it flags up lots of duplicate ACKs or suspected retransmissions - but does not do this on the karoo test downloads.

I'll have a look, just downloading wireshark (at 200kb/s) and torrents (at around ~100kb/s) and streaming fine from the BBC news clips (oddly BBC News channel streaming seems to be more reliable even when I have trouble with the clips).

But I suspect the evening will be awful again...
