Ok so here are my current line stats:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9577 kbps 1011 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.5 db 20.3 db
Noise Margin 16.8 db 5.9 db

When i carry out a speed test on mybroadbandspeed.co.uk i only get 3.5mb down and 800k up...
However when i carry out a test a second later on speedtest.net i get 7.5mb down and 800k up....

Why is this? Which is correct??

I think my line can handle much higher speeds than this...

Because speed tests are not accurate enough.

Best way to test your throughput speeds it to do test download from Microsoft.com or a site where you know they will have the bandwidth.

Most speed test sites will have hundreds of user do a test at the same time.

First test there may only be 200 people doing a test.
Second test there may be 800 people doing a test.

Both tests will give totally different results.

so all speedtest sites are pointless.. id of thought theyd allocate each test certain bandwidth for an accurate result...

This happened to be everytime i tried... on one site i got 7-8mnb download on the other 3-4mb... everytime i tried today!!

The results I have seen from speedtest.net have been fairly accurate even on extremely high bandwidth links which I have run the tests over.

I would recommend you use more than simply speed test sites to gauge your true line speed, as Fasttrack suggested use other well know web site which host files to help give you an overall picture.
