..compared to how fast the karoo postcode checker says you can get.

I'm only connected at 10mb and that's what the postcode checker says I should expect.   A call to the idiot desk simply resulted in (they obviously did the same as I did) "well my system says that's all you can get".

Are they lying and should I demand they increase my speed?

Hey

The post code checker is pretty accurate.. They are telling you the truth, However, It is possible to get perhaps another 1mb, but you will no doubt be running a very unstable line if you push the connection too much...

Me for example, I was told i would get 10mb, I infact connect at 11.5mb, but still get a 10mb throughput, this is because i have removed the ring wires from my phone sockets, and because i use software to help me lower my SNR margin, but doing so creates alot of errors on my line, thus giving a less stable connection then if i where to just leave it as it was..

Hope this helps

Have you eliminated all internal cabling? Have you tried from the NTE (master socket with faceplate removed)?

Here in Beverley the postcode checker reckons 12Mbit/s when in fact I connect at 13:

Ds Rate (Kbps)         13309
Us Rate (Kbps)         1021
DS Margin                 8
US Margin                13
DS Line Attenuation        26
US Line Attenuation        16
Trained Modulation         ADSL_2plus
