..compared to how fast the karoo postcode checker says you can get.

I'm only connected at 10mb and that's what the postcode checker says I should expect.   A call to the idiot desk simply resulted in (they obviously did the same as I did) "well my system says that's all you can get".

Are they lying and should I demand they increase my speed?

What are your SNR margin and attenuation stats?

Karoo said i would get 14meg on adsl2+, at 1st it was a bit slower but with a few tweaks i got 14 but my stats implied i could get more. after e-mail to them to up it a bit i am now getting 16 but i've noticed when i get a phone call it drops connection. I have been brushing up on filters and have read good reports on XF-1e ADSL 2+ Microfilters so i've ordered a couple and am just awaiting their arrival.I also noticed when disconnecting the ring wire my main box does'nt just have 2 wires as stated in most setups but infact has about 6. I may get in touch with K-con to see what the crack is with this.

Ds Rate (Kbps)               16113
Us Rate (Kbps)               1024
DS Margin                       5.8- 6.4
US Margin                       13.9
DS Line Attenuation        29
US Line Attenuation        15.4

on the "pro"  Roll Eyes package and getting a measly 1761.15 Kbps ( 1.7 Mbps ) where i should be expecting 4.5 in a hu9 area.

Currently using the crappy thomson wireless at the minute but as i am in this area temp i will switch to a better setup once i move to a permanent home in the Hull area.

I'm on pro and getting 8.191 down/1,023 up in the HU9 area. I'm also using the Thompson wireless. I'm no expert but I suspect your poor speed is down to your wiring rather than karoo or your router. Your line attenuation looks pretty poor to me.

I'm not expert though so maybe one of the other guys can help you. I'm just pointing out what I'm getting in the same area with the same equipment.
