With my connection failing when i receive a phone call  going by these reviews http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/Reviews.asp?ProductID=1652  i've ordered 2 of these, should arrive tomorrow. Anyone else tried these high quality filters and if so did they show any improvement. I will update as to if they improve my connection or not.

My current stats are

Ds Rate (Kbps)               16484
Us Rate (Kbps)               1023
DS Margin                      fluctuating between 5.8- 6.4
US Margin                      13.9
DS Line Attenuation         29
US Line Attenuation         15.4

They made a slight improvement to line stats however my broadband still dropped when I received or made calls I am awaiting delivery of a XTE-2005 http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=105 at the moment, so adsl will be removed from all the extensions and will see how it does.

Its so annoying though, it dropping every few hours for phone calls.

I had looked at the XTE-2005 but decided for the easier option first, if i get no improvment like yourself you'll have to let us know how you get on with yours. I understand they're not to difficult to fit.I e-mailed K-con this morning about my box having 6 wires going to it but they have said this should not be my problem and to contact them again if new filters don't improve connection.

And your right about it being annoying...

miken, right, i've now got new filters and after swapping between old an new there is an improvement but the phone was still cutting off my connection..well' on putting the new filter in i  embarrassingly noticed that my new phones connection was of the rj11 type which i had plugged into the wrong socket on filter...i've now fitted the adaptor that came with the phone and all is well, no cut offs, what a plonker i am.

Old stats
Ds Rate (Kbps)               16484
Us Rate (Kbps)               1023
DS Margin                      fluctuating between 5.8- 6.4
US Margin                      13.9
DS Line Attenuation         29
US Line Attenuation         15.4

New stats

Ds Rate (Kbps)               17238
Us Rate (Kbps)               1023
DS Margin                      6.1
US Margin                      13.4
DS Line Attenuation         29
US Line Attenuation         15.4

My faceplate hasn't come yet Sad

What do you mean the rj11 from the phone was connected wrong?

I only have the phone connected downstairs, the other 2 are wireless, i have a hard wired extention to the bedroom, this is where i run my extention to the loft from (where computer is). When i got new phones a couple of months ago i just plugged it in to the filter without looking, the one the rj11 on the phone cable fitted was the adsl connection. if you look at these you'll see what i mean. http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/ADSL_RJ11_Cables_Adaptors.php?referrer=google&gclid=CPPWkL-D15cCFQoi3godZXdrDQ  An adaptor came with the phone to convert it from rj11 to the correct phone connection. The adaptor is similar to this  http://www.choiceful.com/large_product.php?prod_image=50357_x.jpg&pId=303&old_price=&sign=%C2%A3&price=&text=inc.%20VAT  Why the phone has rj11 connectors instead of the correct ones in the 1st place is anyones guess.

Again...what a plank i am.

It happens more often than you think. RJ11 is a type of connector not cable that can be used by both adsl and telephones.

You can buy telephoney RJ11 cables that are designed for phones (usually white) and adsl RJ11 cables that are designed for broadband. Of course, a filter only has one RJ11 input expecting an adsl device. If it gets a telephoney device then you get the problem described above.

I've now realised that the RJ11 is the US standard phone fitting and the BT plug is the UK standard fitting. My new phone was made for the US market hence RJ11 fitting.

Before and after shots

Wont know if it makes any difference for while though, just made 5 calls to it and it didn't disconnect.
Other thing I want to stop is it dropping thne feeling it has to connect at 2mbps for a while...

Oh and bear in mind although it was connected at 14335, its often only 10000-12000 so if its more stable I'm happy Smiley

Mike, looking at your stats they don't seem to far away from mine so i'm wondering why your roughly 14meg download and mines 16.5 - 17meg, infact your down attenuation is slightly better than mine. With you using the DMT graph can i assume your using a thomson or speedtouch router.

Anyway i would like to take this opportunity to wish you and all the karoo forum members a merry christmas and hopefully some happy karooing for 2009.

Cheers

Using Netgear DG834GT may buy a different router sometime though to see if it can sync higher. What do you use?

Same stats (no disconnects) but SNR is 7.1 db now.

I use the netgear DG834PN so i guess the inner workings are much the same. I was on 14meg but i e-mailed karoo and just said with my stats i think i could go a bit higher.Within 1 hour (i think it was) i got this reply..."Thank you for your email to the Internet Helpdesk.
I have increased the maximum connection speed on your line in an attempt to speed up your connection.
Please let us know if you have any problems with your connection." ......

So apart from the phone cutting me off(my fault anyway) i've stayed on that profile. You might want to try it, if you get any probs they can always put you back, but with your attenuation i'd deffo give it a try.

Another thing i've noticed over the past few days is my speed test's have been very stable no matter what time of day or night i do them.....mybroadbandspeed.co.uk has been giving a constant 13200+kbps or so reading and speedtest.net 14500+kbps.Used to drop considerably around tea time. The only thing i've changed is i've installed firefox browser which deffo gave a better stream on the footy, i watched the same game through IExplorer and it was forever buffering and freezing but when i switched to firefox no buffering or freezing at all...
