Please post your line attenuations and the connection rates you connect at.. Just wondering whether people with similar line attenuations to mine have similar speed.. And also just interested with what other people are able to achieve with there attenuation.. ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 10311 kbps 1023 kbps Line Attenuation 37.0 db 19.6 db Noise Margin 3.1 db 12.8 db The above is near 5pm, When i connect in the morning its normally 11mb and 5db ish Noise Margin.. Regards Elahrairah

Wow, I'd love to see the his results too if he where on adsl2+ profile. As you say, He must be literally next door hehe.. I still aren't sure about this line attenuation then, yours is lower and as a whole it seems people with lower attenuation gain better connection rates.. But in some previous posts, I've seen people with similar attenuation to mine or even slightly higher, yet still getting a better connection rate then me.. I've done everything possible to gain a good connection, Followed DSL Kitz guide and now only have wires 2 and 5 connected in each phone socket.. Also have a nice router now, and have everything set up as good as possible.. Thanks for showing me your stats Ayreon, Your very lucky with you connection hehe. El-ahrairah

Connection Speed 15359 kbps 1023 kbps Line Attenuation 28.5 db 17.0 db Noise Margin 1.8 db 12.1 db
Ayreon has a bloody lucky line, even though our attenuations are similar he holds a higher snr at higher syncs.
Edit: also Scottangry seems to have some line problems, his snr low for such an attenuation, same for upstream which isnt even connecting properly (128 instead of 448) and snr 7.

El-ahrairah, i'm not sure about these attenuation readings either, miken's down attenuation is slightly better than mine suggesting shorter line thus better speeds but infact he is getting lower connection rates. I've also got a 20 metre extension lead from my socket to router which should also decrease my connection rate.A couple of years ago now Kingston where doing something with the phone lines in our area probably replacing them, whether this has something to do with it i don't know, all i know is mine used to be about 14m/b 2 months ago but with a new extension cable, microfilter, updating router firmware, removing ring wire and higher quality cat5 cables i've managed to get upto nearly 18m/b connection.Maybe someone in the know can enlighten us as to the connection difference even though other stats are similar. It's also good to see miken's connection holding on even at an snr of 1.8 which shows adsl2+ can work at lower snr, time will tell.

It would be nice having somebody with a little technical knowledge on the subject i agree, Perhaps your right Ayreon regarding recent work done on your lines in your area..
I live down Victoria Avenue, Inbetween Chantalends avenue and Princess Avenue.. I'm not too sure as to which exchange i'm connected to, but i believe it shouldnt be that far from me, But with my attenuation, I am apparantely 2.2km away from my exchange..
Btw, Are you connected to your main socket? I'm connected to the next socket along, But it doesnt make a difference when i connect to the master socket connection wise..
I'm not sure what you mean by ring wire, but will know in a few mins when i google it.. I've no doubt done everything i can to gain maximum speed..
Oh and regarding mikens snr margin at 1.8db.. I use DGTeam with my router, and have my SNR percentage set to 50%.
This usually gives me a SNR margin of 5-6db and conenction of 11mb during the day.. Then after 5pm my snr drops usually to 1.8-3db..
Unfortunately though i do have disconnections sometimes when it drops that low.. But it does hold for quite a while usually..

Master socket is in living room then a hard wired extension (2nd one along) to the bedroom (strangely enough, this also gives a better connection than 1st one). I have then got an extension cable running from bedroom to loft.I live down Goddard ave so probably sharing same server (but i'm closer lol) I was thinking of going onto dgteam firmware as i also have dg834pn router, do you think it's better and do you just update it through the routers normal update routine.

Do you know where the exchange your connected to is then?
I guess you use DMT tool then to tweak your line? Well DGTeam comes into its own for one reason, If your line drops it (automatically) reconnects at the SNR percentage you have set in the DGTeam router settings..
So unlike DMT tool, you don't have to keep changing the settings, The router automatically reboots to the settings you have in place on your router page..
It does upgrade exactly as if you where to do a normal firmware upgrade..
I would seriously consider giving it a try, You can always revert back to the normal DG834PN firmware if you are not happy.. I haven't had an issue going back and forth from firmware to firmware...

I did try the DMT tool with very good results, only problem was the laptop would not connect via wireless, so to keep the wife happy i've had to return to normal settings. Do you know of any issues connecting wirelessly using the DGTeam firmware. (I'll give it a go anyway), and did you find out about the ringwire?

What security where you using on the wireless? I know that one of the usb wifi things on our pc's doesn't support WPA so have to use WEP

WPA-PSK, i've also turned off ssid broadcast so it can't be picked up at all by neighbours. The wireless connection is almost as fast on the laptop through 2 floors as it is on main computer.I turned on the auto108mb connection instead of the default g&b and the connection increase was very noticeable on laptop.

No issues connecting wirelessly, I'm using it on laptop now..
Using WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) encryption with no problems at all..
Give it a go Ayreon, You never know, you may find the solution to a faster connection and still be able to keep your wife happy if it works wirelessly for you hmm..
I still haven't got round to checking about ringwire, been roped into watching superman returns hehe..

I'll defo give it a go then, but the old ball and chain is on laptop at the mo (not watching superman) so i'll try it later or tomorrow....The ring wire is a now defunct part of our phone wireing that's only purpose in life is to give interferance to the adsl2+ signal thus reducing the connection speed. Disconnecting it gives an almost instant increase in speed after turning router off and on again.

ah ok.. I believe i may have already done this.. I used http://www.dslzoneuk.net/socket.php to set up my phone sockets.. I have left the master socket alone though as it has more wires and have been told that if i tamper with this and karoo need to fix something, they will refuse if i have done anything to the main socket.. I guess i've done everything then hehe..
