Right....laptop connection OK. Router fully reset itself about 10-30 this morning but has seemed stable since. Now connecting at 18262kbps and SNR is 3.7 at 17.40pm.I downloaded a 5gb "file" in 48mins this morning, so if it stays stable i'm a happy bunny

Just a quick question, Did you remove the ring wire on your master (main socket) or just all the others?
The main socket in my house hasn't been touched, With all the others i only have wires 2 and 5 connected..
I left the master socket alone simply because i was told that if i was to tamper with this, then KC would not repair anything if there is ever a fault..
Do you think this may be affecting my connection/SNR?
By the way, how's the DGTeam firmware working out for you?

the differences in speeds at same attenuation can be a number of things, including things inside your own properties but sometimes not - for example my connection will hold 19mb (attenuation of 25~) during the day, but i lose 6+db in the evenings so can only train at 16mb if i want my net stable. a lot of interference is caused by other devices along the way such as central heating/cordless phones/lights/etc. attenuation should be seen only as a guide to what you'll get - it is really luck of the draw as to the quality of your line outside.
I think i have a split pair - which is why my line is so badly destroyed by interference at peak. Somewhere along the line the twisted pairs are not twisted properly (as this neutralises some interference).. i've seen my line dive as much as 8db in the evenings.
also during the winter months there is more interference in the evenings. and stuff like how many other lines that are active next to yours (they interfere with your line) can mess things up.
i have had an engineer out, but he put me on a 5mb profile (...) and said theres nothing he could do - didnt even bother to check anything. In BT land they atleast make an effort........
