Does any one have any idea which is best for ASDL2+ and wireless connections between theese two.
I have the Netgear and also the 585, just need to know what to let go. At the moment I am using the Netgear for the last few years with no issues, so if no improvement on changing, do not want to change.

You could test the Thomson router for a few days and see if it improves things in anyway, best way to find out.

My advise would be to stick with the Netgear, they are well known for getting the best speeds on ADSL lines especially on long circuits from the exchange. Sell the Thompson router on ebay (sounds like the KCOM freebie) and have a few pints on KCOM  Grin Grin

if my memory serves me right the v2 of the dg834 wont be as good on KC lines as the 585 despite it being a better router. this is due to the chipset not being a broadcom.

WDS on 585v7 is broken.

Seems like a test is in order between the two. Thanks for the replies.

Wireless Distribution System (WDS) is a way of extending a wireless network using other access points to repeat the signal. For example an area of your house may have poor wireless coverage, you could introduce an extra access point to boost the signal and extend your coverage. It can also be used to create a point to point bridge between two access points.

Can you post back and let us know which router you decide to use?

On a side note I did have a DG834v2 running on a 7km line and it was rock steady for about four years, it was only a power surge that caused to to fail in the end and I replaced it with a DG834v4.

OK, all installed and decided to go with the Thompson which is connecting faster. Both results below done from the first junction box and on a 15m ADSL cable extension.

Netgear 9370
Thompson 10239

Good speed, concidering the postcode checker gave 7000 as what to expect.
