Anyone seeing a noticeable reduction in newsgroup speeds over the last few days - typically I would see 700-800KB/sec, now seeing around 30KB/sec.

Same connection over a BT line provides 700-800KB/Sec

Multiple news servers tested all exhibit speed reduction.

Anyone else seeing this ?

Line speed solid and full rate on ADSL (am on MAX PRO but no ADSL2 access yet where I live)

thanks !

Improved last night and now back to around 30 KB/sec - suspect there is an issue they are not disclosing.
Weekend work to resolve congestion very vague.

Spoken to a few people now - concur there is an issue...

I am 100% sure they are shaping - use port 80 and 800KB/sec standard, my newsgroup offers http traffic versus if I use  standard usenet ports 40KB/sec maximum (over 20 connections), stroke of midnight 800KB/sec!

Given the 75GB limit why shape any packet and port traffic.

Is it just my account Huh?
- 4th call to KC 606101 number not looking good, may have to resort to ink and paper and mail customer services.

Karoo wont be charged per GB a user uses as far as I know.
They will be charged per mbps they are transferring over others networks.
So if they make everyone slower they wont get hit by high peak mbps charges.

Please note that, in order to minimise the effects of natural broadband contention for the majority of our customers, we may still give lower priority to peer-to-peer (file sharing) and newsgroups traffic during busy periods.

Taken from their Broadband FAQ regarding the new packages.
