Ayreon

Just a quick question, Did you remove the ring wire on your master (main socket) or just all the others?

The main socket in my house hasn't been touched, With all the others i only have wires 2 and 5 connected..

I left the master socket alone simply because i was told that if i was to tamper with this, then KC would not repair anything if there is ever a fault..

Do you think this may be affecting my connection/SNR?

By the way, how's the DGTeam firmware working out for you?

Seeing i was unaware of KC policy on repairing, i have disconnected the ringwire from the main socket and the extension socket. If i was to have problems on my line i would just reconnect the ringwire and deny all knowledge of it ever being removed Roll Eyes.I'll try and get one of those tools to reconnect the ringwire in the main socket but leave the other disconnected to see if it does affect my connection. The DGTeam firmware seems stable enough at the moment although i did notice yesterday my connection speed had dropped by 1.5m/b but it had not lost connection, being connected now for 80hrs ish.

You can remove the ring wire from the master socket,

On the front of the master socket the bottom section is removable, your extensions are connected to this and you can do what you want with that.

The part you are supposed to touch is the part at the back of the faceplate (you cant see this without unscrewing another part inside the socket, where the incoming line A+B connect.

I have ring wire disconnected and KC repaired not long ago, wasn't bothered if a wire was disconnected.

ah ok,

So you only have wires 2 and 5 connected Miken?

So its the section were the test socket is that you can't touch? The face play ontop of that which you can take off can have the ring wires removed?

Just wondered if this is maybe causing slower connection for me as all the other sockets have had the ring wire removed, just not the master socket for the reasons i mentioned..

btw guys

These are my standard stats when i connect in a morning, percentage 100% (default)

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    10501 kbps    1023 kbps
Line Attenuation    37.0 db    19.5 db
Noise Margin    6.4 db    12.7 db

Should this snr and connection stay connected all day? I believe so, especially given the fact that  i can be stable at 1.9db most the time..

But when i leave my conenction alone, i randomly lose connection, usually after 12pm, And definately drop connection rate after 5pm..

I know i should expect my snr to go lower, but i'm surprised my connection drops, I'd have thought the above stats would be able to remain at all hours of the day.. Yes ok i'd expect the SNR to drop to 3db on an evening, but even then it should remain connected..

I only have 2 and 5 connected on extensions, but use a filtered faceplate on the master socket.

You are allowed to do what ever you want with these wires.

So you can remove the wire 3 from there.

You cant remove the next set of 2 screws on the master socket though as that is KC's property, all thats there are the 2 incoming wires from the dropwire.

Right thats useful for me to know miken thanks..

Have you removed the ring wire from the faceplate on the master socket then?

I wonder if it will make any difference, I may give it a go..

Removed ring wire, results are now as follows:

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    11295 kbps    1023 kbps
Line Attenuation    36.5 db    19.5 db
Noise Margin    6.4 db    12.7 db

compare with previous post showing previous stats..

So it has made a difference yey!

Edit: This is the best my line can sustain now i've dropped my percentage margin to 30% with SNR at 2.1db

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    13211 kbps    1023 kbps
Line Attenuation    36.5 db    19.5 db
Noise Margin    2.1 db    12.7 db

Did a speedtest just now and results

Been testing several things, and have sinced manage to eek out even more speed.. Its amazing what a little time and effort does..

Read previous posts to see progress:

Given the fact that i was told when i was connected that i would see no more then 10mb because of were i live.. I'm happy to say that i've surprised these expectations by far..

I originally connected at 10mb, With a throughput of 8.5mb
Then i upped it to 11.3mb with a few tweaks, With a throughput of 10.2mb
Then i Upped connectinon to 12.5mb, With a throughput of 11.1mb
Then i upped it to 13.2mb, With a throughput of 11.8mb

And now, Here is the next step:

ADSL Link     Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    14181 kbps    1023 kbps
Line Attenuation    36.5 db    19.6 db
Noise Margin            1.6 db     12.7 db

So there we have it, It just goes to show what a little testing and changing things can do.

I'm pretty happy with this connection so far, I doubt with my attenuation i can do any better though..

Unless anyone has any bright ideas?  Wink
