KCOM Group, of which broadband provider Karoo is a part, has been named one of Britain’s most admired companies by business leaders.
The 'Britain's Most Admired Companies' awards 2008, run by Management Today magazine, in conjunction with the Nottingham Business School, has KCOM Group ranked 203 out of 240 companies, up thirteen places since last year's awards.
KCOM was positioned above some of the country's biggest businesses including Yell Group, Friends Provident, ITV, British Energy, Rank Group and HMV.
The company provides a range of integrated IT and communications services to businesses, and internet and telecommunications services to selected consumer markets, within the UK. Karoo is its residential broadband service in East Yorkshire.
Kevin Walsh, Group Executive Director at KCOM said: "To be ranked as one of Britain's most admired companies is a great honour, especially in light of the fact that it is our peers that rate our business and ultimately decide our position."
Now in its 15th year, the awards offer a unique insight into what makes up corporate reputation, by recognising key factors critical to success. Top companies are asked to assess their rivals in 24 sectors based on nine criteria. The results offer a truthful portrayal of what it takes to be admired in business by your peer group.
This year's overall winner was drinks giant Diageo, rising eight places since last year and winning the award for the first time. Last year's winner was Marks & Spencer.
The winners were announced at a dinner held on Monday 1 December at Claridge's in London.
