They probably selected the wrong ISP in the list, getting ridiculous in an evening now, <10KB/sec off usenet, <50KB/sec off bittorrent, certain trackers appearing to be blocked, web downloads/HTTP <2Mbit

Tried to use the five on demand service last night to watch flash forward. No joy whatsoever, kept buffering every 3 seconds for 10 seconds!

I spoke to my auntie today, she lives around the avenues/bricknell ave area. She is getting very poor speeds for the last 2 weeks. There is so much bad feeling towards KCOM as they are acting as judge and jury to their customers. It wouldn't matter that much if we had an alternative service to move to so we could vote with our feet.
I am watching the news at the moment that is rather topical to this argument its a small piece about U2 streaming their concert live on youtube. I am thinking what chance do you think, we the 'Karoo' customer have of being able to watch it in the expected HD without the problems we can come to expect from the network we have to live within?
After speaking to my auntie and explaining to her about the problems etc she became more and more angry. She thought the problems were associated with her lack of ICT knowledge. I petitioned her to write and complain to both her MP and KCOM as a broadband connection is something she is paying for but is certainly not getting, she can be classed as a light user with no torrents, streaming etc.
Without a broadband connection these days you are at a distinct disadvantage compared to those that do, the Gov is pushing more and more services on the net, information we need to get by day to day is becoming more web orientated. When there is only one gate keeper to this service they should be held to account. They are misleading the citizens of Hull and holding the city back (IMHO).

Bricknell Ave area here, awful speeds most of the time as of around 4-5pm and ALL weekend All HTTP downloads and streaming affected by this, really running out of options as to what to do now.

I have had a look around the area, click on Barton.... hmmm - we can whinge but they are getting lower speeds most of the time, but on the other hand do BT do the 'over the top' bandwidth restricting that we have to put up with?

Yeah, i noticed its been so very slow tonight.
Does anyone have an idea on the back haul KCOM have for its 52km area?
I am guessing on something stupidly low like a 5gig line (divide that by the number of people who are connected to the web at any one time in Hull, Beverley, Cottingham, Preston, Hessle, etc)

Modified. Split the technical discussion of KCOM capacity to another thread: http://karooforums.net/index.php/topic,753.0.html
